*Dani's P.O.V.*

I was sitting in Spanish class bored out of my mind like I had been for the past semester. I had my head lying on the cool, hard desk surprised that I hadn't fallen asleep yet. We never did anything in this class because the spanish teacher was too busy googling protein shake concoctions and worrying about his muscle mass. Sighing, my thoughts wandered to Val. I knew she hadn't been okay in awhile. She was my best friend and the closest thing to a sister I had. I knew about the cutting, how she once took too many pills and ended up having her stomach pumped when she was only twelve years old, how her asshole boyfriend verbally and physically abused her, her dad never being there, everything. I loved her to death and hoped she would be okay soon. I hated seeing her so sad and miserable constantly.

My thoughts were interrupted as I felt someone tap on my bare shoulder. I flinched at the contact, slowly turning around to face my crush of two years. Marcus Richmond. His stunning blue eyes pierced into mine as he lifted a hand to rake his messy blonde hair. Even though he was a senior notorious for sleeping with girls for one night, and breaking their heart in the morning with his infamous "I don't want anything serious" speech I wanted him more than air. We've never had an actual conversation before so I was of course on edge.

"Do you have a pencil I can use," he asked with a small smile that melted my heart.

"Oh, s-sure," I stuttered, reaching into my backpack. I found two pencils, one for me and one for him, and proceeded to hand the green one to Marcus. Our fingers brushed lightly and I could feel my cheeks start to blush instantly. I turned around quickly before he could point out or acknowledge my tomato red face. I touched him and now he's going to think I meant to do th-

Once again I was pulled from my thoughts as I felt a finger tap my shoulder twice. Before I could turn around, a piece of paper slipped behind me and onto my purple notebook. It was folded shut, which made me furrow my brows together. Confused, I whipped around and saw Marcus with a toothy smile. God.

"I thought you looked beautiful lying your head down earlier," he said, rubbing his neck nervously. Why was he watching me...? Was I making the player nervous? "Anyway, you should text me sometime. I'd like to see if I have a chance to go on a date with you soon," Marcus bit his lip. I could see he was anxious for an answer since he was fidgeting and mindlessly organizing the things on his desk.

"I'd love to," I replied with a smile. He returned the smile and quickly looked back down at the Spanish textbook. I wiggled back into my seat and mentally did a victory dance. I entered in Marcus's number into my phone and decided to wait and text him at the Mexican restaurant after school so I could could ask Val what to say to him. I had to tell Val about this. I debated on texting her right then but decided against it. I would just tell her at the restaurant later.

For the rest of the period, I spent my time watching the hands on the clock slowly move to tell me school was over.

It was finally time to leave as the last bell echoed throughout the school. I gathered my things as fast as I could off my desk and ran to leave the spanish room. People were giving me strange looks as I walked by and it made me smile. I didn't know I was skipping almost, I was just happy. I elbowed my way through the crowd, and fought my way to the parking lot so I could find my car. So far all I saw were Mercedes in shades of black, grey, and white. I scanned the lot to find my beauty.

I half jogged, half ran to my beat up Chevy after spotting her. I ran my finger across it's side as I made my way to the driver's seat. The paint was chipping in some places, and in other places there wasn't any paint at all. It looked like at any second, this baby was about to break down. I couldn't afford a new car and I fell in love with this bad boy right when I saw it.

I slid in the driver's seat and threw my bag in the passenger seat, being careful to not get anything on my bag. There was trash everywhere and I don't know half the stuff that was living in here. Shrugging, I slammed the door shut and started the engine, having to do it several times before it actually turned on. I backed out of the parking lot with ease since I was the last car besides the faculty vehicles. As I got on the main road, I turned on the radio to find a station to listen to and instantly started singing as Sleeping With Sirens blasted through the speakers. I earned a couple disapproving looks, and even some middle fingers.

While singing, I turned left and parked the car across the street from the restaurant. I looked at my watch and was surprised when it said 3:17 p.m. I had enough time to sit there and wait for Val to arrive so I could tell her all about Marcus. She was going to freak out. I walked in the restauramt and was immediately welcomed by the hostess. I held up two fingers, showing there would be a person joining me soon. She quickly led me to a booth and asked what I would like to drink.

"Water, please. And a sweet tea for my friend, no lemon in either," I said sweetly with a smile plastered on my face.

I looked at her name tag that read Maria in bold font and made a mental note to remember it next time I was here. She nodded before heading off with the drink orders, disappearing behind the kitchen door. The restaurant was small and quaint with a Hispanic theme. The walls were decorated with papel picado and sombreros of many colors. The seats of the booth were evergreen and the tables were a sleek light orange that complimented the wooden floors. It was rustic. I liked it.

I heard tires screech outside as well as car doors slamming shut near the restaurant but ignored the sound. It was common in San Diego to hear reckless drivers show off to their friends or their slutty girlfriend by making their tires burn out. I rolled my eyes and checked my phone for the time. 3:32.

Where the hell was Val?
