Burn

I flinched at the heat radiating off the blazing fire only meters away from me holding them inside, only I had managed to escape the house. But not without getting burned, and the pain in my forearm only getting worse after I put out where the fire did touch me. Hearing the roaring sound of the ambulance, fire department, and police should have sent relief flooding through me, but it didn't. I don't care, I didn't care they were coming, I didn't care how bad my arm hurt, I didn't care that the whole neighborhood had already evacuated, and I didn't care that if I stood there much longer I would faint from all the thick smoke I had and kept inhaling. Nor did I even realize when they arrived and carried me into the ambulance. Only did it click when I could taste the difference in air as they put a ventilator over my face filtering into my lungs. I quickly shot up taking one last glance at the burning house I used to call home not an hour before.

It's a day like any other, my father's sitting in his 'lab of creation' as he liked to call it. He was an inventor so I guess it was fitting. My mother was in the kitchen making my personal favorite food -lasagna- even though there was no special occasion. My brother, well no one knows where he is half the time. I was told to stay in my room because my dad was tinkering with one of his new creations and he said it could be dangerous. But even if that wasn't the case I would most likely still be in my room. I get up and walk downstairs after hearing my mom calling dinners ready. As usual my brother and dad don't show up so it's just me and mom. My brother is always out at dinner time and unless my dad gets a break through or we bring his food to him, he doesn't eat. "Boom!" the sound snaps my attention toward my dads lab where I see a blinding flash. Before I could comprehend what was happening my body was on autopilot running as fast as I could away from the ever growing ball of flames escaping his lab. After the dream like flashback I wake up tears streaming down my face in a hospital bed with my brother sitting in a chair beside it resting his tired head.
