[2:47 A.M]
I heard a loud noise and sat up straight suddenly.
I heard it again.
Thunder. I thought.
Gee, of all things my a$$ had to get scared awake by thunder I thought as plopped back down.
I had feeling I was forgetting something. Well that's never a good feeling. I thought.
Right!
Kayami.
She was afraid of thunder, loud noises in general but mostly thunder.
I dragged my self out of bed and to Kayami's room.
As soon as I knocked I could hear her whimpering.
I poked my head inside.
"Hey kaya... you ok?" I asked.
She just looked at me with an expression that said "come here".
I walked over and placed her in my lap.
"Can you sleep with me tonight?" Kayami asked, her face looking as though she was going to cry. I could tell even if she had buried it in my chest.
"Of course I can" I said as I placed both my feet on her bed.
Once we were comfortable she asked something unexpected.
"Karma..."
"Yeah?"
".... will you ever leave me..? Like mommy and daddy...?"
The f*ck...?
"Of course not..." I said.
"Really?"
"Kayami... look... I'm never gonna leave you guys. I love you, and your sisters, more than anything in the world... really.."
She clung on to my shirt.
"Oh..."
"You wanna go to sleep now?"
"Uh huh, g'night!"
"Night"
