I raced down the alley way, taking a sharp turn onto the sidewalk. I ran steadily, focusing on my breathing, as shouts were heard coming down the alley. I had never been very athletic, so my panting was labored and sporadic. I looked up to see Hiro sprinting just ahead of me.
"Craaaaaaaaaappp," I groaned, letting out a heavy breath at the end. I could feel a knot twisting in my belly, the prelude to a painful stomach cramp.
The distant yelling became louder. I pushed through the minor pain, but my speed slightly decreased.
'Shit!' I thought. 'I'm a goner, huh?'
The noise coming up behind me increased, and out of fear, I sprinted for my life. Hiro turned and glanced at me.
"Shoot, you're not looking too good," he said between pants.
"No kidding." I glared back.
"And they're catching up, too."
"No shit, sherlock!" I voiced louder than before, gasping for breath.
"Jeez, it's not my fault you're slow," Hiro commented with a labored chuckle at the end, followed by more panting.
Hiro turned slightly and held out his hand. "Here."
"What do you want me to do with that?!"
"Just take my hand, idiot! It'll help you catch up. Since you lack physical strength, I'll pull you if I have to!"
"Fine," I grumbled under my breath, while fumbling to grab his hand.
We ran side by side, dodging pedestrians and turning every corner in order to throw the men off track. We ran until we heard no more noise from our pursuers.
"I think we lost them..." Hiro voiced with suspicion.
"Yeah, I think so too," I nodded between heavy breathes.
"Ha! You should really exercise more (y/n)."
"Shut up!" I shouted.
