After a while of walking, we finally made it back to Hiro's place.
But it was late. Past curfew in fact. We decided to sneak in as quietly as possible to avoid Aunt Cass' scolding.
Hiro unlocked the door and slowly pushed it open, wincing as it made creaking sounds. He pushed open the door just enough for us to fit through, then closed and locked it after we were both inside. We heard a faint conversation happening in a nearby room and paused to listen in. All of a sudden the conversation changed and a louder voice was announcing something. A staticky noise followed and a new voice spoke.
"Aunt Cass must be watching TV," Hiro said.
"Yeah. We'll have to sneak up the stairs right past her."
Hiro extended his fist towards me. I bumped it with my own.
"Let's do this," Hiro said with a determined look.
We took off our shoes and put them in our backpacks for maximum sneakiness. Then we began to take slow careful steps towards the noise of the television. Once we reached the corner of the hall, we got down on all fours and crawled to the base of the stairs.
Hiro began ascending the staircase first while I followed behind. Once we reached the top of the stairs, we tiptoed into Hiro's room and closed the door.
"We made it," Hiro said with a grin and a sigh of relief.
"Haha I totally thought you were gonna slip on the stairs or something and get us caught."
"I'm not that clumsy!"
"Well, sometimes," I laughed in response.
I tossed my backpack on the floor and went to sit on Hiro's bed. He did the same and sat next to me.
"What should we do tomorrow," Hiro asked.
"Hmm... I'm not sure. What do you wanna do?"
"Whatever's fine. No matter what we do, I'm sure you'll find a way to make it fun." He laughed.
I could feel my face growing warmer.
"I'm not always fun. You know, I can be serious too."
"Haha About what?"
"Bot fighting...and...you."
Hiro looked surprised at first, but his expression soon changed back.
"Your only serious about two things? What about school? Haha"
"Don't care. I'm only serious about the things I like."
"Like...me? You like me?" Hiro asked with a growing blush.
I turned away from him to hide my already red face.
"Well duh, I'm always with you, aren't I?" I said quietly.
All of a sudden, I got tackled from the side. Hiro had wrapped his arms around me and wouldn't let go.
"Same," he mumbled.
"What?"
"Me too... I like you too."
After a moment of processing, my face was beet red with heat.
"U-um are you sure?" I questioned in disbelief.
Hiro smiled up at me.
"I'm always with you, aren't I?"
