Hi, my name is Riley Thompson. I am 17 years old and I live in Mississippi. My Mom is never home, and when she is she only yells at me, blames me for my fathers death, and is just emotionally abusive. Yes that's a thing. My father got hit by a car after I was trying to get a football which was in the middle of the street. He pushed me out of the way of the driver who we found out later, was on texting a friend. I am forever grateful for what many father did for me three years ago on August 12th, 2016. I still love my mother and I understand where she's coming from, I just need to get away. I also have a brother named James. He's 24 and living alone with an amazing job. He always worked hard as skipped a grade of two, but when dad died, he worked even harder and graduated with a doctorate degree and got a job as a science professor. Me on the other hand, I'm still only a junior in high school. I want to be a therapist to be able to help the people who went through horrible things or are just in pain. Of course I'm running away from home instead because I can't handle this pain anymore.
I don't have a plan, but I do have money for food, clothes, and college. I have been saving up for college since I was 9 and I have enough to afford college for about 3 years. I don't know how I'm going to pay for the other two years I need to be able to get a masters degree. I also know I'm going to live at a hotel for a bit and get a few part time jobs. In all honesty, I'm terrified. Most of my "plan" isn't complete. The world is dangerous and I don't know how I'm going to survive, but I will. I'm sure of it.
