Simon walked quickly down the street, his feet tap-tapping against the concrete. It was late fall and the trees were rustling with the remaining leaves clinging on for their lives. Piles of reds and yellows created a warm feeling in the cold season. Kids were bored and busy, enjoying the weekends with pumpkin pies and leaf piles. The whole town seemed to be in an excited hush and bustle getting ready for that one very important event.
The cling of the bell from the door rang with glee as Simon rushed in and went straight to the desk. "Have you tha' banners, boy?", a stocky man asked, eyeing the huge rolls of painted banners Simon held tightly.
"Yes, just on time. They will be handled carefully?"
"Oh, don'cha worry, " The man stated, waving Simon off. "Besides, your the only painter in this town, eh?" Simon opened his mouth to correct the guy, but decided against it.
"So, the White Ball. Gotta girl, son?" The man asked, with a smile.
"Uh, no, I was considering askin-"
"You don't gotta girl!?" The burly man roared with laughter. "I knew it!"
Simon kept his mouth shut and sighed, putting the banners on the desk and walking out the door, leading to the street that went out of town. The Interactions he had with some people felt like they could drive him crazy. He was thankful for these breaks he had to walk out of town and just be all alone and by himself.
'I mean, people are great but I just seriously need a break,' Simon thought as he headed up the hill towards his house. Small white banners embroidered with snowflakes were out on every available lamppost and fence gate. 'The White Ball,' Simon thought, sighing. 'If only they actually did it in winter to make it less ironic '.
As Simon was walking he passed by a short, pale, extremely blonde girl, who was casually listening to music and skipping down the street. Simon shivered, goosebumps rising along his arms and sending chills down his spine. He felt like he knew her but he didn't know from where. School? He already graduated. Work? There is no way that girl works in his house.
Simon opened his door, mind buzzing. He didn't know if he knew her or not, but either way he felt like after he saw her, things were going to change greatly from then on.
