Saving the world is exhausting, so both you and the Doctor need breaks sometimes. They usually don’t last long, but you cherish every second you can sit down on the floor, listening to the sounds of the TARDIS’ engine.

You close your eyes. It’s like the TARDIS is singing you to sleep. You almost feel yourself drifting away to your dreams, until you feel the Doctor sit beside you.

She doesn’t say anything. You don’t say anything, either. Just silence, the TARDIS doing all the talking. Slowly, you lean on her shoulder and the Doctor looks at you before finding your hand and lacing your fingers together. Her touch is delicate, as if she is afraid of losing you. Of course she is. She’s lost many.

"Are you okay?" is what you ask, but you know the Doctor will simply lie to you as an answer. This time, she chooses to let silence speak for her. She sighs while slowly caressing your hand with her thumb. You’re still here with her.

More minutes pass without a conversation, but you can make do with being together with the Doctor. Usually, she talks your head off, but during times like these, when she’s quiet, you know that there are countless of memories playing through her head. She has no time to stop and think of herself — the universe needs her help and she knows she needs to be selfless.

You reach for her other hand, bringing it to your lips and kiss her knuckles, one by one. You turn your head to her and give her a smile. She stares at you for a second. Looking into her eyes, you feel like you can see the entire universe — galaxies filled with planets, the colour of space in her eyes. She then smiles back and gives you a quick peck on your nose before standing up again.

"Now then," the Doctor grins, her hands on her hips. Your eyes lock. Oh, you could get lost in those eyes of her. But you and her both know that you barely have the time to do that.

"Where shall we go next?"
