The Other Side of Matthew Taylor _ chapter #11

"So, ready?" Matthew asked as we reached the fair.

"Well, yes!" I said with a smile. He smiled back.

Matthew came and picked me up at 6 along with his parents. My mom was more than happy to find out that finally me and Matthew were showing some efforts to continue the friendship between the families.

I was wearing a simple yellow top with a grey shrug. I did not want to overdress. However, Matthew's casual look seemed a lot more than casual. He wore a plain black tee and jeans ; yet managed to make me stare at him in awe. That, and the way he smelled. His fragrance could make you drool.

Yeah, no wonder everyone loves this guy.

We entered the fair, all bright and shining.

"So, where to first? " Mr.Taylor asked. He was a nice man. Mrs. Taylor was pretty sweet too. Wonder what could've gone wrong between the two.

" Umm, the giant wheel?" I said.

"Okay! Let's go!" Mrs. Taylor said with a grin.

Matthew's parents entered a carriage, me and Matthew took  the next one.

"Umm....thanks for coming!"

Matthew said, whispering again. Ugh.

"Shh. No need to be so formal. We were planning on hanging out anyway right? "

"Yeah!" he said with a sheepish grin. A sheepish grin that was too cute for my liking.

Oh god I had to stop this!

"You know, after every big fight they have, they take me out. They wouldn't exchange a word with each other, but just be together. For my sake. They believe it's the best way to make up for all the pain I am going through because of them. When I was nine, I saw them fighting for the first time. I cried all night in my room. The next day, they took to me to my farmhouse and we stayed there for 2 days. Taking me out somehow seems to reduce thier guilt, I guess. After that day, they take me out whenever they have a big fight. It never stopped, and though I am almost 18 now, I couldn't stop them. I don't want to. It's the only family time we ever have ; and it's also one of those rare times when they aren't biting off each other's head. Though the taunts and nagging doesn't stop. That is why I wanted you to come along.....in case you know,  they begin....."

"Hey, it's okay! I understand. I know what it is like when people close to you are upset."

I said,  remembering Alice's words.

I didn't realise that I spaced out thinking about Al and Rohan.

"Hey, you alright? "

"Huh? Oh yes! I am fine....just that....Its just that I had a fight with Rohan and Alice this morning. That's why..."

"Oh! Why what happened? "

"Umm...nothing!" I said. I didn't want Matthew to feel guilty. He already had to go through a lot; I didn't want him to feel that he was the reason behind our fight.

"Come on Kiara! You know my biggest secret! And we are friends now, right? Why aren't you telling me what's bothering you? "

"It's nothing Matthew, trust me!"

"I trust you Kiara, I do. Otherwise you wouldn't have been knowing what you do. You are the one lacking on the trust part here."

"Matthew....okay. I told Alice and Rohan that we are friends now and that I am going to the fair with you. I obviously couldn't tell them the true reason of this sudden friendship and they figured I was lying. You could guess what happened next."

He stayed silent for a long time. The ride came to an end.

"Matthew, we have to go. Business emergency. So sorry we have to leave on such a short notice. Hope you don't mind! Have fun, the two of you! Kiara, thank you for joining us" Mrs. Taylor said. She gave me a warm smile, that I returned.

"Thanks for having me!" I said. And with that they left.

"So, what next?" I asked Matthew. He hadn't spoken a word since we got down from the ride. I completely and totally regret telling him about my fight with Al and Rohan. Ugh, why do I always have to screw up?

"Hey, I am so sorry! Matthew, I totally didn't mean to blame you for my fight with Alice and Rohan. It's just that..."

Before I could complete my sentence, Matthew faced me and gave me a serious look.

"You can tell them about it."
