The Other Side of Matthew Taylor _ chapter #14

"Ugh! What is wrong with Rohan? Why has he called us here at this hour of the day?"

It was 3 in the noon, the shining right above our heads with all its might. Alice and I were standing in Rohan's lawn, waiting for him to make an appearance. Rohan had called us saying it was a 'type c' emergency. The three of us had this way of rating emergencies. Type 'a' emergencies are when there is an medical emergency, a serious one. Type 'b' emergencies are when there's some earth shattering bad news. And finally, type 'c' emergencies are when there is a good news which is so good it that it has to be shared immediately or you might just die with excitement.

Wonder what news Rohan is so excited about. He seems to have these types of emergencies misinterpreted because the last time he said that there is a type 'c' emergency, it was simply the fact that his favourite band had launched their new song. He can get really touchy with music. Rohan is a part of the school band. He plays the guitar whenever basketball is not keeping him busy. He is a pretty good singer, too. On my last birthday, he dedicated the song 'you can count on me' to me. He played the guitar and sang the song with so much emotion, that I ended up crying. Yea, much as a weirdo and a complete nuisance Rohan is, he does these cute things that make me feel blessed to have him.

"Kiara! Earth to you babe! Phew! It's so hot, Rohan isn't showing up, and you decide to escape in dreams! Why is a girl like me forced to stand here, on this road under the sun when I could be doing work that is so much more productive?!"

Alice, and her drama. Alice continued blabbering, when I faintly saw Rohan's silhouette. He came up to us rushing, completely out of breathe. This couldn't be a new song release, no. Rohan wouldn't run so much for it. So what could possibly be the reason?

"Okay you guys! Here is the news!" Rohan yelled.

"Thank God you showed up! I was about to leave Rohan have you any idea how long have you kept us waiting I mean..."

"Shhh! Quiet!!! Listen to the news first!" he said, still out of breath.

"Whoa whoa Rohan! Relax! Breathe dude!" I said.

We sat down on the soft grass, and Rohan had this huge goofy -dreamy grin plastered on his face the entire time.

Whoa. This has to be serious.

"So...?" Alice asked.

"So....! You guys remember Mishti? "

Mishti was Rohan's favourite cousin, a really pretty girl. She was all fair and cute and mellow and well...the typical indian beauty with all that shyness. She was a really friendly person, too. Me and Alice opened up to her pretty quickly, when she was here on a visit for summers. She was around 23-25, but not one of those I-don't-talk-to-people-younger-to-me-because-it's-social-suicide type of girl. I really liked her. I wondered what good news about her was Rohan so excited about.

"Yes of course! She's such a sweet person! What about her?" Al asked, as eager as myself.

"Well, Mishti is getting married!!!"

"Oh.my.God." was all Alice could manage.

"Ohmygod-ohmygod-ohmygod" I chimmed in!

Wow! Boy oh boy she's getting married which means she will be here for her marriage as most of Rohan's clan is settled here. And, since the wedding would take place here, we'd be able to enjoy it too!

Indian weddings are a complete package of fun! The last time one of Rohan's sisters got married, we had the time of our lives in the big fat indian wedding. They have many smaller celebrations before the marriage, like the "mehendi" for instance where the bride and the other women apply henna (or mehendi as they say) on thier hands. The bride has the groom's initial or the entire ne at times hidden in the beautiful henna design, which the groom has to look for and find.

Many indian traditions, cuatoms and celebrations are related to the wedding, right from the religious one's to the cultural ones. Wedding celebrations in India normally last a week, with all the various events taking place.

A wedding is the best way to learn about Indian culture, which I totally love. And this time around, it was not just anyone's wedding, but our favourite, Mishti 's!

Well, this is gonna be fun!

Wow. So much is happening lately, it's sort of difficult to digest. First Matthew and now this. I hope things unfold in a way that brings nothing but happiness....

*Later that evening -Kiara's house*

"Kiara!" Matthew said, his breath heavy and voice rugged.

"Yes, Matthew?" I asked, my voice hardly a whisper.

He came close to me, so close I could feel two hearts pumping.

"Kiara, I.....squeak, squeak squeak!"

What? Why was Matthew squeaking?

"squeak, squeak squeak!" the squeaking got louder.

Before I could comprehend why was Matthew squeaking, I felt something on my hand. Something wierd. Something soft...and furry maybe.

"Ohmygod-ohmygod-ohmygod aaaaaaaaaa!"

I yelled as loudly as I could. There was a freaking mouse ob my hand! Ewww!

I started shaking my hand in disgust and the mouse leapt off. In my antics of trying to chase the creature off my hand, I fell down.

Ouch! Where was I and what was happening?

"With me, without me!" Tom Cruise said to Cameron Diaz, who was hiding behind a car. They were in my television. I was on the floor of my living room, with a probably broken back. The mouse was nowhere to be seen.

So was Matthew. Or, Matthew was my dream. Oh god. Hell yes, it was a dream!

Why was I dreaming about Matthew Taylor?

Ugh.
