EVELYN'S POV:
Stay strong, I willed myself to not cry. Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry...
The pictures of my parents walking out of the elevator with the claw marks across their chests. Each of the scratches was about a foot long. And there was so much blood.
"Evie?" Alyssa asked, walking up behind me. I turned.
"Mmhm?" I mumbled.
"Come on," she said, offering her hand. "Percy's waiting downstairs. I can see why you have a crush on him. He's already pulled pranks on mom and dad. Nearly impossible to do."
It took me a second to register what she said. "Crush?!" I half-yelled. "Fuck you, I do not have a crush on Percy."
"If you say so," she replied. "Anyways, are you coming or not? We have to kill a demon."
"Is it the demon that attacked my parents?"
"Unfortunately, yes. They hadn't killed it."
I snorted. Alyssa was the only person who's stupidity I could laugh at. "Of course they couldn't dumbass. The demon killed them!"
"Did not! They're still alive! It's just the fact that the demon's claws were poisonous! Like, really poisonous," she shot back.
"Fine, let's go. I want my bow, and my seraph blade," I said.
"You'll get them."
---------------------------------------
"Ready to go, girls?" Percy asked, flipping a dagger between his fingers. I rolled my eyes.
"Only Jace can do it that good," Alyssa said. "Anyways, let's go."
"Who's the one with the crush?" I asked as we made our way outside, where Izzy and Simon were waiting.
She glared at me, mouth wide open. "You know I'm ace!"
I laughed, "Chill, Lyssie, I'm just joking." I stopped and raised my eyebrow at her. "Or am I?" She slapped me, and Percy turned around.
"Would you two hurry up already?" he asked. We ran over to him, me physically running into him and knocking him over.
I rolled off him, and we started laughing. Alyssa came over, too, and stuck out her hands to help us up. We stood, me and Percy wiping dirt off our gear. "Maybe we should start paying attention," Alyssa said. "The demon's around here; the Sensor's picking up a trace of huge demonic activity."
"She's right, you know," Izzy said. Her eyes widened. "Look out!"
I turned, but it was a stupid thing to do. The demon launched itself at me. It felt like it was in slow-motion. Anger for my parents swelled up and I shoved Percy out of the way, along with myself.
I pulled out my seraph blade, and it scratched me. A searing pain shot up my arm. I didn't care. I spun, slashing the demon in the chest, if it could be called that. It disintegrated.
My adrenaline wore out, and I dropped my blade, my right hand going to my arm, adding pressure. I could feel the poison spreading through my veins.
I looked up to see Simon, Izzy, Alyssa, and Percy all staring at me. I blacked out.
---------------------------------------
I woke up in the hospital wing. There was a pain in my left arm, and two people were holding my hands. As I looked up, I saw Alyssa on my left side, who gave me a weak smile. On my left was Percy, who looked like he was sleeping in the chair.
I smiled and squeezed his hand. He opened his eyes a bit and squeezed back. I attempted to sit up, got a bit light-headed, and then fell over again. My mind cleared pretty quickly though.
I sat up again, looking to the side. I saw mom and dad; they were laying in the beds to my right. The pain disappeared from my arm. I got up, pulling my hands out of Alyssa's and Percy's. Alyssa looked up.
"You can't get up yet! Your arm!" she said worriedly.
I looked at my arm. I was still wearing the black long-sleeve shirt from under my gear. "Did someone treat me?"
"No...? The Silent Brothers checked on you but they couldn't do anything. Why?" she asked.
"There's no pain. Like, none at all." I replied hesitantly.
"How is that even possible? Your parents didn't survive it," Percy said. Apparently he had decided to join the conversation.
I pulled up my sleeve to show four long, thin, white scars. They were fading as we looked. "What?!" Percy exclaimed. "I did research on those demons, and their poison can kill an adult Shadowhunter with a scratch like that!"
I stared at him. "Why aren't Clary and Jace dead then?" Alyssa asked.
I looked at her. "It's because of how much angel blood they have, isn't it Perce?"
"Yeah... and their's hasn't done anything but prevent them from dying. It's battling the poison as we speak."
"Well, if I'm their child, then wouldn't I have more angel blood then the both of them?" I asked.
"Most likely," he said. "Wait a second, what are you gonna do?"
I had started walking over to mom and dad. I had grabbed a knife off a table.
"Evie! No!" Alyssa yelled.
"Evie yes." I replied, not looking back. The doors opened.
"What are you doing, Evelyn?!" Izzy asked, running over, Simon right behind her.
I pulled up dad's shirt and my sleeve; his chest was covered in blood. I pulled up mom's; her chest was the same. I leaned over dad and cut open my arm. Blood flowed out, into the wound. I felt dizzy for a second.
Then I did the same to mom, without getting dizzy. I pulled down both of their shirts and walked back to the bed I was at, grabbing Izzy's stele out of her pocket as I passed, smirking a bit. I used an iratze and sat down. Everyone was staring at me. I passed Izzy her stele back. Her mouth opened, forming the word, Rude!
"What?" I asked. "I just wanted to try."
I pulled out my notepad, just writing my name over and over, and occasionally doodling a cat or something. Izzy and Simon had left to get the Silent Brothers for me, and I got up to sit with my parents. I sat beside dad, grabbing his hand and squeezing. It took me a second to realize that he squeezed back after.
I looked at his face, brushing some of his hair off of his eyes. "You're like your mother when you do that," he said weakly. I smiled as he opened his eyes.
"I'm going to sit with mom. Not everything is about you," I said.
"Well, you have to admit that the majority of things are." The mischevious glint was back in his eyes, and I smiled.
I walked over to mom, who had opened her eyes. She smiled, then looked at dad, who had sat up, some of the colour returning to his face. Mom sat up, and sighed. "What happened?" she asked.
I told them how the demon had attacked them, and how they had been out for about two days. I told them how I killed the demon, but got scratched and healed. I told them how I had cut open my arm, and then here we are.
By the time I had finished, they looked like their normal selves except maybe a bit weak. The Silent Brothers walked in as soon as I had finished telling them. They said that we could all leave the next day.
"Get Izzy to make me cookies!" I yelled at Alyssa as she was leaving with Percy.
Percy laughed. "Blue cookies!" he said.
"Even better!"
(A/N: I'm having a bit of a writer's block, so um yeah.)
