MAGNUS' POV

It wasn't until late that night that all the demigods - plus Storm - were able to gather in private. It was up in the room that Alex and I were sharing, which was packed with boxes of objects I was extremely reluctant to touch. They looked harmless, but you could never tell with magic.

"So, what's the gameplan?" one of the new demigods - the blonde one, Will - asked, breaking an uncomfortable silence.

"Find evil god. Kill evil god. Hopefully before school starts," Storm said bluntly from her corner of the room.

She had claimed the back fourth of the room - which wasn't very big - for herself the moment she walked in, and to be honest, she scared me and I think she scared the others too, or they just didn't care, because no one disputed it.

"First we have to find out what god it is," I pointed out, "Or even just what mythology he's from to start with."

"Annabeth gave us a list the Kane siblings sent her containing a narrowed down list of Egyptian candidates," Will said, handing over an envelope that thankfully wasn't too thick.

I drew out the list from inside, scanning it quickly.

Some of these are friendlies, but you can never be too careful - Carter Kane

- Set (he's helped us in the past, but he's a generally evil guy)

- Osiris (he's technically my dad, so I doubt it)

- Ra (he abdicated the throne to Horus, but things might have changed)

- Shu (primordial air god, so super powerful, and he's kinda a douche - Sadie Kane)

- Sobek (he's not a leader, he'll just follow whoever's the strongest)

- Atum (creation god)

- Bennu (never met them, but is also depicted as a creation god like Atum, and has no confirmed gender)

- Geb (earth god, separated from his wife Nut, in the sky, by Shu)

"There are only eight," I said, passing it on to Alex, "What about you guys? What are your lists?"

Will and Nico exchanged a glance.

"It's essentially only the male primordial gods that would dare to go against Zeus. I mean, look what happened to my dad when he disobeyed him. Ares might, although it seems unlikely, but Mars wouldn't, so the natures balance out," Will replied.

"What happened to your dad?" I inquired, my interest piqued.

"No one knows," Storm answered, "Artemis was arguing his case on Olympus, but she hasn't mentioned him since she got back."

"What did he do?" I asked.

"It's a long story," Will said, looking exhausted.

"He was Apollo," Storm quipped.

"She's got a point," Nico muttered.

Will faked a shocked look at that.

"Look at you, Nico! You agreed with a hunter!"

"Shut up," Nico growled, but he didn't look mad.

"Tartarus, Pontus, Erebus, Aether, and Ouranus," Storm listed, returning the conversation to the earlier topic.

"How did you know that?" Nico frowned.

"Logic," she shrugged, "You can discount all the females because snake-face said 'king', right? Otherwise, you're all just being very sexist and I'm remembering things wrong. That eliminates Gaia, Nyx, and Hemera."

At the mentioned of 'Gaia', both Nico and Will shifted uncomfortably.

"You can probably rule out Chaos since we'd know by now if a creation god was looking for the throne. Even so, the old myths detail him as a very laid back figure, and we have nothing to suggest he's any different in reality. And Eros - never met him - is the son of Aphrodite, contrary to the old old myths, so that would rule him out as well," Storm continued, "So, what about the Vikings?"

"The most obvious candidate is Loki, but he's... uh, indisposed at the moment," I said, risking a glance at Alex, who had passed the list over to Storm, "And Odin's brothers, I suppose, Vili and Ve. His sons, Thor, Bragi, and Vidar, would also be likely suspects."

"Thor's too busy watching TV to make a grab for the throne," Alex scoffed.

"True," I conceded, "They're all Aesir. I guess the Vanir would be likely candidates as well, but they're mostly peaceful. I can't think of one that would ally with an evil wizard."

"Who knows with gods?" Alex grumbled.

"Most of them objectively suck," I agreed.

"I've never agreed with anything more in my life," Storm said.

"What about your patron goddess?" Nico pointed out, clear distaste in his voice.

"Keyword: most. I know you don't like us very much, but Lady Artemis is a hell of a lot better than most of the pantheon."

"Why doesn't he like you?" I asked, looking between the two.

"And who is 'us'?" Alex added.

"The Hunters of Artemis," Storm supplied, "A mostly immortal band of teenage girls who swear off boys for all of eternity and accompany Artemis on her travels."

"Sounds... extremely gay," Alex said.

"You're not wrong," Storm admitted, a small smirk on her face.

"Why doesn't Nico like you guys?" I repeated.

"Oh, his sister joined us and then died less than a week later."

"Don't talk about her like that!" Nico scowled, "And that's not all you did."

"Yeah? What else did we do?"

"You kidnapped one of my friends."

"Oh, you mean the Roman praetor - Reyna, right? In our defence, we left a note. Plus, her sister told us to do it. Not that we're subservient to the Amazon Queen, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. If it makes you feel any better, we knocked her out and tied her up and she still managed to pin Thalia to the ground."

"That does actually make me feel better," he admitted.

"I don't know why you're still mad about it. She's forgiven us. In fact, she's in regular correspondence with Thalia."

"What?" Nico exclaimed.

Storm shrugged.

"You now know about as much as I do about the subject."

"Shouldn't we get back to business?" Will interrupted sheepishly.

"Doing what, exactly?" Alex pointed out, "We have nothing to go off of, and nothing more to do."

"I guess that's it for the night, then," I said.

"We did nothing," Nico said, "What was the point of this?"

"An exchange of information," Storm answered.

"Yeah, we learnt that we know nothing," Alex added.

"And, given the power levels of the possible 'rightful kings'," Storm continued gravely, "If we don't change that soon, then we're all screwed."
