'Guinevere Baroque? You're father calls'

The beautiful orange-haired maiden looked up to see one of the palace's servants, wondering what her father would have called her for. She brushed her hair quickly and stood from where she sat.

'Very well, I shall see what he wants. Thank you sir'

She went down to the throne room, to where her father was waiting for her, wondering what could be so important.

'Yes, father? I heard you called for me.' her father stood up from his throne and went towards his daughter, while her mother gave her a kind smile, a hint of sadness and sorrow in her eyes. Guinevere was curious to know what was going on. She looked beside her mother, to find another man, probably around the same age as her father, and a young man with blue eyes, wearing a suit. Perhaps he was the older man's son.

'I have great news, my dear daughter!' her father told her joyfully. Guinevere raised an eyebrow at what he said, waiting for her father to continue.

'You're daughter is so beautiful, Arthur! I am pretty sure my son would love to have her' The man said. Guinevere widened her eyes in shock, hoping that is was not what she thought it was.

'W..Whats going on, father?' Guinevere stammered a bit, but tried to maintain her ladylike behavior or her father would be angry at her for embarrassing the family in front of others.

'You're getting married to Dear Paxley's son, Grayson Paxley!' Guinevere's mouth dropped when she heard the word 'married'. Marrying a guy she didn't even know?? This was the last straw. She has always been obedient to her father and does whatever she is told, even if she didn't want to, but this was going too far. The young man, Grayson, walked up to her, took her hand and gave it a soft kiss. Everyone smiled, but Guinevere pulled her hand away immediately in disgust.

'What?! I never agreed to this! How dare you!' Guinevere snapped at her father. Everyone in the room widened their eyes at how the princess talked back to her father. The king was astound at how his daughter dare talk back. But in order to maintain his image, he stayed calm.

'My deepest apologies, but do excuse us for a moment' The king plastered a smile on his face and grabbed Guinevere's hand, leading her into a nearby room.

'You WILL do as I say, young lady!' he lashed out, making Guinevere glare at him.

'I will not!! I don't even know him! I want to marry a guy whom I actually love with all my heart, not him!' She retorted, crossing her arms. That only made the king very mad.

'This is for our families sake!! How can you be so.. selfish!!' Guinevere was astonished at the statement. Her being selfish? How?? Her blood boiled as she replied.

'Me?? Selfish?? All I've done all my life is listen to you!! I've tried everything for you and mother and yet you dare call me selfish!! Shouldn't I deserve happiness to?? I want-' Guinevere gasped as her felt a sharp pain on her cheek. Her father slapped her. He slapped her. Hard.

'You will marry this man. Whether you like it or not! I make the rules here, never forget that!' He growled at her. Tears formed in her eyes but she quickly wiped it off. Oh, how she wished she had a loving family like many fictional characters do in the books she reads. She wanted to marry someone she loved, like in fairytales, when the princess meets her true love, and live a happily ever after. The kind coughed and and straightened his collar.
