FRIDAY
I lifted my face, letting the light of the sun and the shadows of leaves, a brilliant yellow, bright orange and subtle red, dance across my skin. Bees hummed in and out of the pennyroyal, I inhaled its minty smell and continued on walking. I loved the sound of my feet sliding ever so elegantly through the fallen leaves. The trees gently lashed and crashed against each other like tiny drum sticks in the hands of a giant. I sighed and slid my hands into my pockets as the summer drew it's final breath with the, slightly, warm breeze that softly caressed my skin. The charming morning birdsongs calmed my nerves as I was slowly making my way out if the marvellous forest that I visited every Friday morning before I had to go to school. 'Why am I so nervous?' You ask. Well, my first lesson of the day is math. It's not that I'm bad at mathematics, or that the teacher is an absolute twa- It's because I have a test today. But the thing is.. Every time Mrs Lensher gives us a big test, she always goes for quite an enormous one. And no, I'm not over exaggerating.
"HEY! OLD MAN! WAIT UP!" I turned around, the gentle breeze making a few strands of my hair stick to my new raspberry flavoured lip balm. I saw my best friend holding onto her backpack as she was trying to catch up with my fast walking pace.

I laughed, "You know, I'm only 2 months older than you." "Yeah, exactly, 2 months, that's like, 61 days. Do you know how many hours that is?" I didn't respond and just playfully rolled my eyes to the back of my head. We kept walking straight down the road, ever so often stopping to pick up some colourful flowers for the random flower crown June decided to make during our walk to school. After a while, we finally got to the bus stop. We were early, we were always early. We trying to find a 'clean' spot on the ground of the old and rusty looking road. 'Clean' In this case meant without fresh bird poop or spit out chewing gum. Yeah, gross, I know.
June and I just kept on talking about the usual stuff and when she was pleased with her flower crown, she placed the new and unique accessory on top of my head. I stared at it in awe, it was stunning, to say the least. The base was made out of thin, long and not-so-smooth branches, although they were almost unnoticeable because of the quantity of flowers that she carefully braided into them. She only used pastel coloured blooms and although I don't know that much about flowers, I could spot a few types in there. She used violet Lavender, the simple, but profoundly beautiful Daisies, pretty peachy pink Cosmos flowers and another kind that I couldn't quite recognise, but they where of a beautiful milky white colour. "Wow, it's beautiful. Where did you learn to make this?" She smiled, "You remember that summer camp I told you about?" "With the weird morning routines?" (That's a story for another time) She laughed, "Yeah." "I thought it was awful there?" I asked as I tried to ignore the painful and uncomfortable scratching of the branches against my scalp. "It was, but making flower crowns was one of the only things I enjoyed." "Well, you're really good at it, you could sell these!" She laughed again, "Thanks."We were caught off guard when we started to hear the approaching, rumbling sounds of the school bus. As the vehicle started to approach us, we could hear the cheerful screams of the overexcited students. A traditional way in our school to start of a Friday, sing as loud as you can to your favourite song with your friends. Quite stupid in my opinion, but the people seemed to like it, although it isn't the best wake up call when you have a headache. When the bus came to a stop we saw our friend Amy, half of her body out of the back window of the bus, swinging her arms above her head like a mad woman. "GET IN LOSERS WE'RE GOING TO SCHOOL!"

I smirked at her, understanding her 'Mean girls' reference. "Looks like Amy's in a good mood." I nodded as we got onto the bus. I slowly started to make my way through the seats, carefully dodging the backpacks that were effortlessly thrown onto the ground by our fellow students. "Wow, Amy you're amazing! You woke up earlier to get us the best seats!" she told herself. We ignored her statement, and plopped down onto the not-so-comfy seats next to her as the bus grumbled to life. "Oh come on, a thank you would be appreciated." I chuckled and mumbled a small thanks. "See, wasn't that hard?" June snatched my backpack from my hands and struggled to open the zipper. "Hey! Calm down, the food isn't going anywhere." Oh I forgot to mention, every Friday one of us has to bring some food to school for the whole group. Last week It was Vicky's turn, this week it's mine.

June and Amys faces lit up when they saw 2 huge bags of ketchup flavoured chips in my backpack. They squealed out of excitement and jumped into my arms. "Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!" June screamed, while some people on the bus gave us weird looks. Amy, on the other hand already had her mouth stuffed with a hand full of chips. We looked at her, amusement written all over our faces. "What? I only had an apple for breakfast!" I laughed and shook my head at her. The bus came to a stop with a screech. A few people got on and all three of us recognised another member of our friend group. Anne scanned the crowd and her face lit up when she set her eyes on us.

She strode over to us with a smirk on her face, obviously because of Amy who was drowning herself in chips. She sat down on my left, at the half opened window seat and looked as happy as ever. "Hey girlies!" Everybody greeted her with a smile or a quick 'hi'. "Nice crown by the way.", she complemented. I completely forgot about it, why didn't anybody tell me it was still on my head?! I took the thing off and gently placed it into my backpack while shooting daggers at June who knew about it the whole time. She just smirked at me. "Where's Rosie?"

"She's still on that business trip with her parents", I responded. "Wasn't she supposed to come home today?", June asked. "Yeah, but she's just not coming to school . She's probably exhausted." All three girls nodded in agreement. "Are you guys going to that party on Sunday?" She asked. Confused, I looked at her. "What party?" June started explaining the whole thing.. "Well, basically, Jay's having a party at his dads mansion. A lot of students are going, even people that don't go to our school. I wanna go, but I can't, I have to babysit my cousin. I heard Vicky is going tho." "I am too", Anne stated. "What about you guys?" She asked curiously. "Yeah, sure, I'm in. I don't have anything better to do anyways.", Amy answered, "You going Liah?" Am I going? Good question.. I never even really liked partying. I'd rather just stay home to be honest. "I don't know, partys where never really my thing" "Boo!", screamed Amy. Anne clearly seemed frustrated with my answer, "Oh come on! when's the last time you went to a party?" "..." "Exactly! You should go it'll be fun!" "I agree.", Amy stated, while she rose her hand into the air. I looked at June pleadingly. She looked at me like a puppy who disobeyed it's owner. "I don't know, maybe they're right. You should loosen up more." "See! Even June agrees! Come on, pleeeease? For me?", Anne pouted. It would be an understatement to say that I was beyond annoyed, but I gave in. "Urg, fine. I'll ask my parents", I said not so happily. "Yay!" Anne squealed as she wrapped her arms around me and engulfed me into a tight hug.
'What am I going to do with these girls' I asked myself as I laughed and hugged Anne back with equally as much force. We turned our heads to Amy who was excitingly connecting her phone to my speaker. She smirked, "Let's rock and roll baby!" She pressed the play button and 'AC DC' started filling our ears with music. I smiled, maybe today won't be so bad after all..
