The hurling music was becoming too much. My head was pounding, ears were ringing and my breathing wasn't as stable as it was before. The lack of oxygen was really getting to me now.
'I gotta get out of here.' I pushed through the crowd of sweaty people, mumbling a few 'excuse me's here and there as I tried to make my way to the closest exit. "Finally.", I breathed out as I walked into the back yard where the pool was installed. I took out my phone and tried texting the group, no response. I tried calling them, no response. "You have to be fucking kidding me.", I thought out loud. "Though night?", asked a male voice from behind me.

I turned around, looking for the voices source. And there he was, the guy from before, sitting at the edge of the pool and feet dangling into the water. A cigarette placed in between his index finger and thumb. 'So he smokes.' The wind blew his hair back, keeping it out of his face, his stupid, gorgeous face. I chuckled, "Yeah, I guess so." He nodded in response. "Are you gonna sit down or what?", he asked after a few seconds of silence. "I- Umm- yeah, sure.", I stuttered and I mentally cringed at how stupid I must've looked. He laughed at my nervousness. I took off my heels and sat down next to him at a comfortable distance. I was swinging my feet through the cold water of the pool. "Do you ever just wanna escape? Escape from this world, escape from everything?", I was speechless. What was I even supposed to say? I sighed and nodded, "Yeah.." He looked at me with a curious expression, "I'm John by the way." "Merliah.", I answered as I turned to face the sky, who was covered in thousands of stars. "Pretty", he said as he took a drag from his cigarette. I smiled, still stargazing. "What?" He blew out some smoke as he observed the sky, "It's a pretty name. Unique, I like it."
It was my turn to look at him curiously.."Oh, well, thank you then. "

"Come on, let's go for a walk." He stood up and offered me his hand. I hesitated for a second, 'He's a complete stranger. Why are you even hesitating? The answer is clearly supposed to be no. Ahrg, fuck it.'

So I took his hand.
I shouldn't have. I really shouldn't have.
But I did.
