He then walks down the steps into the main entrance of the house where the children are playing the piano. The children, acting on instinct, stop.
Sarah- "Wha'cha want?"
Dr. Watts- "Your ma told you to show me around the house."
Sarah- "Okay, maybe we will."
Dr. Watts- "Maybe?"
Sarah- "...I think we just need a little convincing, that's all! Wut do ya think Tommy?"
Tommy- "Yah!"
Dr. Watts- "...Alright, let's talk. What do you punks want?"
Tommy- "We want... one trillion dollars!"
Sarah- "Or the candycane mom hides from us."
Tommy- "Yah, or that."
Dr. Watts- "Er, what?"
Sarah- "There is a giant candycane on top of a high shelf that we can't reach..."
Tommy- "It's in the kitchen. Ma put it there to save it for when we do chores. Get it for us, and we'll give you a tour through the house!"
Sarah- "What do ya say?"
Dr. Watts- "Well... plotting to eat a stashed candy is a serious crime y'know? I heard you can get six years for that."
Tommy- "Oh no! What do we do sis?!"
Sarah- "We're sorry! We didn't know!!"
Dr. Watts- "Uh huh. Well if you show me around this place now, I'll keep my mouth shut."
Sarah- "Really? You'd do that for us??"
Dr. Watts- "Sure, I'm feeling nice today."
Tommy- "Whew, thanks!!"
Sarah- "Yeah, we'll help!"
The two kids hop off of the piano stool.
Dr. Watts- "Alright, where do we start?"
Sarah- "I know! There's this funny room in the basement."
Tommy- "...I don't like that funny room."
Dr. Watts- "Er, what kind of 'funny room'...?"
Sarah- "You'll see."
Tommy- "...It's weiiirrd!"
Sarah- "We need to get the keys, though. The old man hid it inside a book in the study."
The two children lead the way to the left side of the house and inside the doorway to the left of the stairs that lead down to the basement. Inside is a large sofa pushed up against the wall to the right of the door. On the left side of the room is a tall lamp standing next to a canvas with an unfinished painting of what looks like a beach. Sitting next to it are multiple other finished paintings stacked on top of each other. On the right side of the room are three bookshelves, two on the front wall and one on the right wall. Two rows each, full of all sorts of books.
Tommy- "This is da' book room!"
Sarah- "The key to the funny room is in the thickest book on the upper shelf."
Dr. Watts walks down the steps and turns to the bookshelf on the right side of the room. He grabs the thickest looking book he sees.
<Dusklight>- "The tail of a girl who fell in love with a zombie who emitted the smell of daisies when showered with gentle sunlight."
Dr. Watts- ("...Uh, maybe next time.")
He flips to the page that hides the key. He takes the key and stuffs it into his coat pocket.
Dr. Watts- ("...The man sure knows where to hide things.")
He puts the book back, and heads back for the door. He goes back through the door when Sarah says something.
Sarah- "We can open the funny room in the basement now!"
So he turns to his left and heads down the stairs to the basement. He reaches the bottom stair and takes one last step into complete darkness.
Sarah- "This is the basement. We play hide and seek here!"
Tommy- "Turn on the light before you trip over somethin'."
Neil stands for another moment letting his eyes adjust, when he sees a tall lamp like the one in the bookroom. He walks over and pulls the string that turns the lamp on, which lights up the whole room. The floor he sees is a light brown carpet, and the walls are made of thick stone blocks all stacked on top of each other. On the wall to the right of the stairs is a large metal furnace that howls as it keeps the house properly heated. In the far right corner of the room is a bookshelf with a box on top of it. In between the bookshelf and the furnace is a door leading to who knows where. On the wall across from the stairs is the lamp Dr. Watts turned on, and a small desk just to the left of it with a small bag of work tools. Next to it is a painting of what looks like Red Riding Hood. To the right of that is another set of stairs leading into another room. The children, who were waiting for Dr. Watts to find the lamp and turn the light on, stand near the small desk with the bag of tools. He turns and looks at the door between the bookshelf and furnace and walks towards it. He tries to open it but it was locked, so assuming it was the room they were talking about, he put the key in the door and unlocked the door. He went inside only to find another dark room.
Dr. Watts- ("It's like a cave in here...")
He lets his eyes adjust again, and sees another lamp. When he pulls the string, he is shocked at what he finds in the room. The entire room, from the desk on the far wall, to the floor was covered in different colored paper rabbits. Neil is absolutely puzzled by this discovery and doesn't know what to think. He sees something that isn't like the others just to the right to him. Sitting on a small wooden crate is a stuffed toy platypus.
Dr. Watts- ("What a hideous little creature...")
He looks at it some more, and with curiosity pokes it. It falls down, so he sits it back up on the crate. He really doesn't know what to think at this point, so without hesitation he stuffs it into his coat pocket. He turns to his left to see nothing other than a broken music box. Uninterested in anything else, he leaves the room.
Sarah- "Did you see it??"
Dr. Watts- "...What do you kids know about all those rabbits?"
Tommy- "Nothing! The old man didn't want anyone to go inside, so we never told him."
Neil stops to think for a moment.
Sarah- "There's more of them actually!"
Dr. Watts- "Where?"
Tommy- "Inside the abandoned lighthouse! It's just beneath this cliff."
Sarah- "Wanna go see? I got the keys!"
Dr. Watts- "...Let me guess; you aren't supposed to go in there either"
Sarah- "Heehee!"
Dr. Watts- "Remind me to never keep any locked cabinets around you two."
Tommy- "So, ya wanna go see the lighthouse?"
