Dr. Watts- "Well, it's rather windy outside, but... oh to heck with it. I'm Dr. Watts, mere wind can't stop me! C'mon, let's go kick some butts!"
Neil leads the way back up the stairs, into the entrance way, and out the door with the children right behind him. When Neil closes the door, he is surprised when his eyes adjust to the dark so fast. He then realizes how bright the full moon was that night. He proceeds to the right of the house, following the trail that leads to the cliff side where the lighthouse resides. Walking from the house, there are beautiful arrays of purple, yellow and white flowers on both sides of the trail. They walk the trail until they see two bridges, one after the other, built over more streams running across the ground, branching off from each other as they run towards the house, which you can see from the cliff side. The cliff side itself is studded with the beauties of nature. There are more flowers, like the ones in front of the house, bushes tenderly trimmed and taken care of, a single tree that stands tall with a Blue Jay resting on one of its branches, and a wooden bench that sits near the edge of the cliff, behind a safety rope, that overlooks the ocean and the beautiful night sky. The full moon shining bright, reflecting off of the surface of the water is truly breathtaking. Dr. Watts and the children cross both bridges and approach the bench. Dr. Watts takes a seat on the end of the bench, and the children stand next to the bench looking out towards the edge of the world. Tommy pointing...
Tommy- "There it is!"
On the edge of the cliff, a level below where they are standing, resides the old stone lighthouse the children were talking about. With its windows boarded shut, and the roof rusted at the top, it seems to have been out of use for a long time.
Sarah- "We need to head south to get to it though."
Tommy- "Yah, I forgot my parachute."
Neil shakes his head and wonders why the children didn't just take him to where he could get into the lighthouse. He walks back to the front of the house, and leads the children in the direction of which he earlier crashed the car. They walk down the first row of stairs and head towards the second when Tommy stops astonished.
Tommy- "Oh no!!"
He runs ahead of the other two and frantically looks for the cause of the dilemma.
Tommy- "My novelty beach ball... someone broke it..."
Dr. Watts- "...Oh."
Sarah- "It was stupid anyway."
With tears welling up in his eyes.
Tommy- "But... but it's the bestest novelty beach ball I've ever had... Oh who could've been so cruel?!"
Dr. Watts- "Uh, don't worry, Dr. Rosalene'll buy you another."
Sarah- "Nooo! Don't do it!"
Tommy- "She will?!"
Dr. Watts- "Oh yeah, sure. Just ask her afterwards... we kinda need to get going now, though."
They walk past the busted beach ball and continue their journey to the lighthouse when they walk past the spot where Dr. Watts hit the tree.
Sarah- "It's smoking!"
Tommy- "Who's da dummy who crashed da car?"
Dr. Watts- "That was, er... Dr. Rosalene. Yeah. Oh Dr. Rosalene, tsk tsk tsk!"
They continue past the smoking car and follow the path leading to the left, when they see a squirrel sleeping on a log.
Sarah- "Ooh, a squirwel!"
Dr. Watts, being curious, approaches the log that lays the resting golden brown squirrel and touches it. The squirrel, reacting almost instantly, wakes up and screeches. They chase each other up the trail a few feet, and brace themselves for harsh battle. Neil, in what looks like some sort of makeshift martial arts stance, and the squirrel on all fours waiting to pounce, they lock eyes and nod to each other.
Dr. Watts- "Don't worry kids, I got this!"
He locks eyes with the squirrel once more, and the world slows down just a bit. Neil, in deep though, wonders what move he should use to both annihilate the squirrel, and impress the kids beyond belief. There's the tsunami kick, a blow with enough power behind it to create an actual tsunami, and the tornado punch, a hit that is said to shake the very heavens whenever performed. He thinks it through and wonders if the powerful arsenal of death dealing kicks and punches would be too much amazingness for the kid's small minds to handle. There is always the option of taking off either shoe and simply smacking the squirrel away he says to himself. He then closes his eyes, and makes the final decision... tornado punch it is. With all his might and as loud as he can, he yells...
Dr. Watts- "This ends here! HYAAAAAAAA!!!"
Sarah- "Stop iiit! Or we'll tell ma you animal abuse!"
Tommy- "Ya, she call the cops on you!"
Dr. Watts- "Awe c'mon, I wasn't actually gonna... Don't you like role-playing?"
The squirrel frightened by him yelling earlier, runs off into the woods some were.
Sarah- "Yoo should be ashamed of yooself!! ...Let's name it Teddy."
Tommy- "Okey!"
Dr. Watts- "...Let's just go. My whole night is ruined."
He storms off ahead of the other two and continues following the trail, leading to what he hopes will be the answers to why the strange room in the basement contained different colored paper rabbits, and who made them. They walk along the trail when they see a break in the trees ahead, and a lighthouse in the distance. The path, this whole time it seems, has been slowly growing thinner and thinner due to the fact that on both sides is a cliff with a drop-off of around three hundred or more feet. Dr. Watts walks until he reaches the door of the lighthouse that rests just at the edge of the cliff's wall. He is surprised when he discovers that the door is unlocked, and opens it inside to his left, to let the kids lead the way. Before they have a chance to enter, he spots something and thinks out loud to himself.
Dr. Watts- "Wait, what's that over there?"
He walks in between Sarah and Tommy to get a better look. A tombstone that reads "In Memory Of River E. Wyles".
Dr. Watts- "River Wyles', huh. Was she John's wife?"
Sarah- "Dunno. C'mon, the lighthouse is right there!"
He stands for a moment longer, thinking of who this tombstone could belong to, and if he was right. The thought lingers in his mind as he turns around and enters the lighthouse. Just like he imagined it would be, big and empty, with a half landing staircase leading up to the top. Dr. Watts takes a few steps over the white tiled floor, and heads up the stairs with the children at his feet. Sure enough, when he reaches the top, Neil, Sarah, and Tommy are greeted by numerous paper rabbits.
Sarah- "This is it!"
Neil bewildered by the second sighting of these peculiar rabbits notices something strange. Walking over the rabbits he passes the light standing in the center of the room.
Dr. Watts- "Seems like this thing hasn't been functioning for quite a while now." He says to himself.
He walks past the other solid color rabbits to find one sitting on a desk. This one, however, was two different colors; blue paper for the head and legs, and yellow paper for the body.
Tommy- "Hey, this wasn't here when we came last week!"
Sarah- "Oh ya, Jonny must've came here before he fell ill again."
Dr. Watts- "Two Colors huh? Am I the only one who's a little creeped out by these, though?"
Tommy- "Yah you are."
Sarah- "Yep."
*Quiet buzzing noise*
Dr. Watts- "What the--... someone's calling me."
*Picks up the phone*
Dr. Watts- "...Ack, I should've guessed."
*Answers the phone*
Dr. Watts- "Yeah yeah, we're coming, blah blah blah!"
*Hangs up phone*
Dr. Watts- "Alright, let's head back."
He looks at the multi-colored rabbit once more.
Dr. Watts- "As for this..."
He takes it, tucks it inside his lab coat pocket where it's safe, and walks with the kids back to the house. To Be Continued...
