Kite

This oneshot is really short, mostly cause I didn't know where I was going with this😂
But anyways, the very beginning is fluffy and kinda cute, but the end is angsty soo if you don't like angst I don't recommend reading the last part. Hope you enjoy!

I sat along side by boyfriend, Kite, as he was fishing. Currently our job was supposed to be to watch over a breed of ants that where carnivores and study their behavior. They where a few feet away from both me and Kite, as we had to study them from a large distance so they wouldn't attack us.

"Hey Kite?" I asked, leaning my head on his shoulder, only to get a hum in response. "Can you promise me something?" I asked, still looking at the river, though I could already sense Kites eyes on me. "That depends on what it is." He stated, while I could only smile and play with the rim of my sleeve.

"Can you promise that you'll love me, till death due is part?" I expect there to be a pause of silence, but to my surprise he answered rather quickly. "If your asking when I'm going to propose, then it will be after I retire." I couldn't help but giggle with how blunt he was. I then wrapped my arms around his torso, snuggling into his chest.

"I really do love you Kite." I stated, enjoying our time together. Kite wrapped one arm around me as well, and a ghosts of a smile resonated on his lips. "I love you too, (Y/n)."  He then kissed the top of my head as we both basked in the glory of this beautiful and serene moment.

When I heard Kite went into battle with a chimera ant, I wasn't worried in the slightest. I had known Kite all my life, and I just had a feeling he wouldn't let anything bad happen to him.

So when I heard the news that they had effectively retrieved Kite, I was over the moon. I told Knuckles and Shoot to bring me to Kite immediately. "Ms.. are you sure?" Knuckles asked, rubbing the back of his neck, his eyes filled with worry. "Of course I'm sure! I've missed him so much!"

On that note Knuckles and Shoot reluctantly led me to a giant house in the middle of the woods. There reluctant behavior should have been my first red flag.. and the second was when they warned me the Kite wasn't fully himself, that there was a possibility he wouldn't remember me.

I quickly brushed off those statements, telling both young men that he had to remember me. They once more exchanged worried looks towards each other and led me inside. Once there I saw Kite standing in the middle of the room with scares littering his body.

With no hesitation I walked closer to him, and once I got within arms range I felt a hard slap go across my face, knocking me to the ground. There was a few moments of silence before Shoot spoke up. "He hasn't recognized anyone.. and if you go within a certain range he will hit you..." Without a word I stood up and walked closer to him, only to be hit down again.

This was an endless cycle, I get too close to Kite, I get knocked down, then I get back up and try again. This happened on repeat for what felt like hours on end, when in reality was probably only a few minutes. At some point he had lifted his hand higher than the other hits, giving me the opportunity to rush in and hug him.

I cried into his chest, feeling absolutely defeated. His hand paused in the air, not moving an inch. I activated my nen and moved it towards my eyes, seeing a giant monster that had stings connecting itself to Kite, making him a puppet.

I couldn't help but let out multiple broken sobs at this new revelation, this might have been Kites body, but it was clear that Kites soul wasn't here anymore.

"K-Kite.. you said.. you said that we'd get married... you- you told me-" I couldn't even finish my sentence before I once more broke out into a chorus of cries.
