It has been a few months since Zoë and I joined the Survey Corps. Settling in with the others wasn't as difficult as i thought. Most of us got along quite well and have begun trusting each other. We trained even more rigorously than before, both in hand-to-hand combats and our 3D maneuvering skills. We also practiced cutting off the titan's nape and to move more efficiently to save up gas in our (Omni-directional mobility) ODM gears. Although, since we're in the Scouts, I don't think polishing our hand-to-hand combat skills was necessary. We're here to fight the titans after all, not humans.
We have also done three expeditions beyond the walls so far and have fought the Titans face-to-face for the first time. I am appalled by the number of comrades that have died just on the last three missions alone. It made us think about how lucky we were to be able to come back to these walls safely and left to wonder, when will we be the next one to die?
I must say, the expeditions have changed everyone's perspectives of the outside world. Zoë's especially. Ever since our second expedition, she has been rather playful. Somehow, something clicked inside of her that made her let loose of all of her resentment and anger towards the titans. She told me it was something about the titan's head being lighter than she had expected. Who knows whatever that means? Anyways, people are starting to think she's crazy for sympathising with the titans. Nevertheless, I agree with Zoë that we should treat them like the living beings they are.
We were supposed to have our one week break - where most of us were allowed to visit our hometowns and to rest before our next expedition. However, I was being called by Commander Shadis the day I was supposed to leave with Zoë, back to our hometown.
As I walked into his office, I saw the other Section Commander Erwin, Miche and Flagon. I greeted them with a salute and the commander gave me a sign to take a sit. Why was I the only comrade standing in a room full of leaders? I took a sit beside my Squad leader, Flagon.
"Hermann, you must be wondering why I called you here." said Commander Shadis.
I looked at him, silently waiting for what he was about to say.
"We all have seen your combat skills and here I say, you are the best out of all your comrades." He pauses briefly before continuing,
"I want you to follow Erwin and the rest to the Underground of Wall Sheena. There is a thug that Erwin here, is very keen on meeting."
The Underground? I thought. There is such place in Wall Sheena?
"I'm sorry but your holiday would have to wait. Most of the scouts are skilled in fighting off titans, but are weak in fighting off against humans compared to you. Your help is very much needed in this mission." Added Erwin.
I never thought that the Scouts does anything inside these walls. Just what are they up to?
"Yes Sir, I would assist you in your mission." I answered while saluting. I mean, it's not like there was a choice to avoid the commander's order. They might think I was disrespecting my superiors. I was also curious about 'The Underground' and how it would look like.
"Remember, these thugs are skilled in 3D maneuvering. How they acquired the device, I do not know. That's what we're about to find out." Mentioned Erwin as he started discussing on what to do when we reach The Underground.
