As night fell, the darkness cast its shadows on the lonely castle. Most of its residents must've been long asleep due to their fatigue in a day's worth of training. However, when the moonlight shone through a small window of a run-down tower, it reveals the silhouettes of the occupants who were hardly in bed. It was already past midnight, yet Levi and Furlan were still wide awake. They were so used to live in a place where time doesn't exist. A place where the sun and the moon are nothing but a comical fiction. To even say the word 'night' and 'day' made their tongue-tied, as residents in The Underground had never need to use those words.
They have dreamt for so long to finally be able to bask under the sun or to watch the night sky to see the stars. Perhaps even a shooting star that could grant wishes just like in the books. One of the things Levi did to escape his reality was to read books that he'd stole from the black market. But now that they're up in the surface, the both of them find it difficult to get used to even the smallest things, such as sleeping. Why do people sleep in the night and work in the day? - This is the concept that both of them seems to hardly understand.
As the both of them continued to talk about unimportant things to make themselves tired, Levi can't help but to walk over to the only window in their room. In the two nights that he'd stayed in the castle, he'd already found himself a favourite spot. The light from the moon seems to bring him comfort for someone who'd never grew up with one. He wants to watch the moon as long as he can to finally be able to appreciate its existence. He finds that the longer he stared at it, the more that it forms a face and soon other shapes he'd never thought of ever seeing.
"I don't think I'll ever get tired looking at it." He mumbled to himself.
Furlan now realising that he's been talking to himself all along while his friend was lost in their own thoughts.
"At what?" He asked.
"The moon..." Levi replied casually as he continues to look out the window.
Furlan almost spit out a laugh when he saw his friend standing prettily by the window. To add to the cherry on top, there was even a glow of blue ray hitting on Levi's face making him look like a saint.
"Hmm...you're as weird as ever." That was the only odd thing Furlan could think of saying.
Levi looked out once more through the small opening, and glided his gaze towards the overgrown trees of the Trost District. Furnitures in The Underground were made of wood, but he'd never actually seen what a tree looks like until a few days ago. As he stared at the trees closer, he could easily identify their species. There was a Silverleaf Oak also known as Quercus hypoleucoide and an Alligator Juniper, which got its name as its bark has been said to be similar to the skin of an alligator. He'd never seen an alligator before, so there was nothing he could compare the tree trunks to. Trees had odd names which he used to memorise in his free time. There used to be so little to no things to do other than to steal or to claim territories in the small part of that slum. The owner of the bar he was a regular in, Luka, owned an encyclopedia of trees which he'll read whenever he comes to the shop. The bar owner was one of the only people he could get along with in The Underground. Looking at those trees now brings sentimental meanings to his once insignificant life. Suddenly, Levi wonder how Luka was doing.
It was nice to see movements in those trees as well. He'd heard some animals such as wild boars and deers live in those densed forrest. The only time he'd ever seen an animal were either if an unlucky bird from the surface made its way to the Underground or pests such as rodents and cockroaches making home in his place. He grew tired of the same ol' boring and gloomy colours those animals possesses - brown, grey, black and casually, white. It was a fresh start to be able to see colourful flocks of birds and insects surrounding the castle grounds. He wished his mother was there with him to see this part of the world.
