You sat in hospital, waiting patiently. Today was the day, you could just tell. Today was the day you lose your best friend, your lover and your other half. He completed you, and yes it was heartbreaking but you know you had to let go. The nurse walks out, smiling at you and allowing you to visit him. As you looked through the door, he smiled as did you. He looked weak, incredibly weak. You'd bought all of his favourite things, such as foods and games to play on the ds. You'd no much idea how much time you had with him, but the next few hours were some of his, and your, best. Throughout the day, you couldn't help but think about what put him in here.
-rewind to certain date-
The two of you were happily singing along, you behind the wheel. You'd been out and about, down the beach, down the cinema and had an amazing time together. Your fiancée and yourself had a great time, driving back was just the last of it. You'd checked both ways twice, before pulling out of the road. Both you and him were certain it was clear, but obviously not. One second you were singing along, the next you were tumbling over, after impact with a lorry, which had hit his side. This knocked both of you unconscious for goodness knows how long, you being the first to wake up. The pain was excruciating, but all you could think about was him. Was he okay? You kept calling out, hoping to get a reply. Eventually he responded, asking the same thing. Once the ambulance turned up, the pair of you were rushed out of hospital. You'd been in there a maximum of 1-2 months, before the news was broken that he was expected to not recover. This was heartbreaking, extremely. He was the male version of you, you'd stuck together since you were 5, and 20 years later you were losing him, all due to some idiot speeding and driving recklessly. Although you felt like crying, you couldn't. No tears could be let lose, but every day you visited him, making his day all the brighter and seeing his smile brightened your day too. As the days went by, his smile was getting weaker and weaker, you noticed.
-back to de present-
As the evening started to come upon us, he started to get sleepier and sleepier. Once he was asleep, you know he'd be gone within that night. The one thing he loved the most was you singing to him
"____, I love you more than anything and anyone in the world" I suddenly said. I gave him the longest hug and kiss, before we started saying what we loved about each other.
"You're getting tired, hunny. Get some sleep" I say
"I can't, these beds are so uncomfortable" he replies
"Will it help if I sing to you?" I ask, voice nearly breaking. He nods. I sing the first song we sung together as a couple
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine" he smiles, started to sing along in a weaker voice
"You make me happy when skies are grey" we sing together, both our voices get quieter
"You never know dear, how much I love you" he starts drooping into his forever lasting sleep.
"Please don't take my sunshine away" I whisper, as he is almost asleep. I give him one last kiss, and he kisses back. I say my goodbyes and remind him just how much I love him, before he eventually falls asleep.
"Goodbye, my sweet prince" I whisper, looking back and walking out. The next day, the doctors had rang explaining how he passed peacefully in his sleep. I could finally let my tears flow, and spent the next few months thinking about him. One day, we'll meet again.
