Brent had remained quiet for days. Well, at least I thought it was days. It really could have been only a couple of hours. I was starting to even get a bit worried about the poor guy. Like what if he starved to death or something. It felt like a month since they were feed, but it was probably a couple days. With no light it was hard to tell.
"Brent? Are you okay?" I tried to convince myself I really didn't give a damn about this crazy ass shifter, but hey, he was starting to grow on me. Solitary apparently made people do crazy things, like emphasize with the guy who never let you sleep.
"I NEED QUIET TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE MOTHER!" Well, that answered that question. I almost regretted asking his yelling was so loud. That would teach me to try to check up on him. His shout was still echoing throughout the entire solitary unit. Maybe dealing with Brent's crazy rambling was the true punishment of solitary.
I decided to continue my favorite solitary activity, leaning against my door to bask in the subtle light through the little window of bars above. My thoughts were filled with revenge on the inmate who had dared to pick a fight with me. A newbie who hadn't realized who I was and dared to take my seat in the cafeteria. In my defense, I did warn her that she had five seconds to vacate my seat before I made her leave it. She had just huffed at me and continued her food. Fucking huffed at me. I had to bet she was in the medical ward still. If not my gang would have sent her there in retaliation.
"The mother needs you Harlow! Your time is coming!" Well wasn't that adorably ominous. Hopefully the time he was talking about what getting the hell out of this solitary cell. I really needed someone else to talk to other than myself and Brent.
I could still hear him mumbling to himself, but couldn't make out the words. My stomach rumbled and I was started to lose hope for any food to arrive soon. I'm pretty sure I would kill someone for a shower as well. My stringy hair had long since been tied up into a messy bun and I stopped smelling my stench long ago. The small sink provided barely had any water and the water that did trickle out was brown.
Sighing, I moved onto my small cot to lay down. There was nothing else to do anymore besides take a nap. My eyes were just starting to drop when I heard the door to the block slide open. I sprang up to my feet so fast to stand in front of the doors to put my face up against the bars. Maybe food was coming!
Disappointment hit me when I didn't hear the wheels of the food cart being pushed over the stone floors. With my superior hearing, I heard at least four pairs of footsteps. Odd. Usually there were two guards max that came down here. Maybe they were bringing another inmate in for this special brand of fun. It would at least hopefully give me someone sane to talk to. Maybe. One could argue that no one sent down here was ever fully sane.
Shadows were now in my peripheral vision getting closer to my cell. Finally four burly guards were stopped right out side my cell, there faces shrouded in the dim lighting.
"Well hello fellas, what can I do for you today." I gave them my best crazy lady grin. It was best not to show the guards any fear or hope. They took all hope away to make an inmates life even more miserable. Whatever they were here for probably wasn't good. "No need to bring a whole party to come see little ol' me." My face was now pressed up against the bars so they could get a full view of my special brand of crazy. However, I still couldn't quite make out their faces. All I could tell was that these were some big motherfuckers .
Motherfucker number one finally spoke. "Harlow Abernathy, inmate number 561. Put your hands through the food slot to be cuffed. You are going back to gen pop."
I don't think I ever followed an order so fast before. I take it back. This nice gentleman was not a motherfucker. He was now my favorite fae in existence right now. At least until he got me back to my gang. A squel tried to leave my throat, but I pushed it back. No need for them to see how excited I was. They may try to keep me here if they saw how happy leaving this place made me. I did take three of their own out in my fight with the newb. Totally an accident though.
My favorite fae attached a chain to the cuffs on each of my wrist to create shackles. Once that was complete I pulled my hands back in so they could open the door. As soon as my favorite fae opened the door, the other three guards immediately surrounded me. Two of them grabbed my arms while the third attached more shackles to my ankles. I was now forced to shuffle along like an old lady. These three could keep the name motherfucker. Their grip on my arms was tight. They were clearly not taking any chances with me. Clearly they learned long ago I wasn't one to mess with.
"Bye Brent! It was fun while it lasted!" I hollered down the hall as the guards walked me toward the door that would led me to a bit of freedom. With him being my only companion for this long, I would have felt bad for not at least saying goodbye.
"FIND THE CHOSEN ONE. SAVE US ALL!" Well that was just a peachy little goodbye message. "And my name is Drish you bitch!" I couldn't help it. I busted out laughing like a psycho. These guards probably thought I officially lost it. Maybe I had.
