It was 7 AM. Madi's alarm went off. After 10 minutes of tossing and turning in bed, she finally decided to get up.
She hadn't even started her day and yet, she was exhausted. Eventually, she forced herself into the bathroom to get ready, then, rushed outside, crammed her breakfast, kissed her mother goodbye, and left for school. At school, Madi always felt invisible. That's how she liked it. She never really wanted popularity. She wanted appreciation. She wanted appreciation from her teachers, her boss from work and most importantly, her family. That's how she got motivated.
After school that day, Madi rushed out and ran to Whipp'd. She was late, and she knew her boss would be aggravated.
"Madelyn Jane! You are 15 minutes late!", he screamed.
"Sorry, boss. I had a quiz again and I lost track of time."
"Sorry, boss. I had a quiz again and I lost track of time", imitated her boss.
" Just stop wasting more time and get to work."Madi frowned, then, did as she was told.
A few hours passed by and it was the end of Madi's shift. She felt relieved. It was finally the weekend and that meant no work and no school. Just perfect. Just as she was about to leave, her boss stopped her with a piece of information.
"Madelyn, wait. I have a family emergency and I really need to go. No one else is available for shifts 'coz it's Friday so I need you to stay here for another hour, please."
Madi was confused. "But-"
"I'll be back in an hour, I promise", said her boss.
He pat her on the back, then left the shop.
Madi called her mum and told her she had to stay for an extra shift. She was all alone in a shop in an empty street. She was confused. Her boss always closed the shop as soon as her shift was over. No one would come for coffee at this time of the day. Everything felt so unusual. But, she didn't have anyone to complain to either, so she just sat down, took out a book, and expected no one to visit her tonight.
She was wrong.
She still had 10 minutes left of her shift and was still reading her book when she heard footsteps coming from outside the shop.
Eventually, she stopped hearing footsteps. The man was at the door. He was pale, his face didn't even look like a human's face. It almost looked like a skull but with a think layer of skin on it. He was extremely skinny, so skinny that it seemed like the clothes were wearing him instead of the other way around. He looked terrifying. A chill ran down Madi's spine.
Suddenly, she got a text from an unknown number.
"Found you, Madi."
