2 years later. . .
"CORY!", The voice of Gabriella Jenkins aka 'Ella, my bestfriend, yelled way too close to my ear, bringing me back to my senses.
"Huh?" I said hazily.
"You were daydreaming weren't you? again." she said.
'She knows me too well.' I couldn't help but think. "Psh. 'course not." I said wiping my face a yawn escaping my mouth. Ella gave me her 'yeah, right.' look. "I was thinking okay? Thinking."
"Mmm-hmm. I wonder what of? Oh wait, lemme guess. First day, Freshman year?" She had that knowing look on her face.
And I follow-up thought,'too darn well.' "Whatever." I said flippantly, to which she rolled her eyes.
"Fine, live in denial. I'm not the one who's got a crush on T-" I rushed to cover her mouth.
"SSSHHHH! Shut up!" I hissed. And she smirked. 'The nerve of this girl. Why are we friends again?'
"Oh hush, it's not like there's anyone in the room. You Drama Queen."
We were in an abandoned broom closet, which our little group affectionately call 'The Room Where Magic Happens' or 'The HQ' for short. We found it just a few weeks after the beginning of 2nd Year and made it look. . . habitable, though we mostly just brought things in and just never got around to bringing it back out.
I heard the door creak behind me and turned, there was Tom and Jerry (He's real name's Gerald Everdeen, he's one of Tom's closest friends.)
"Oi, we're out breaking sweat in the pools and you girls didn't even have the decency to cheer us on! You're just in here brooding about like bats!" Jerry said.
"Whatever, Jerry." Me and Ella say simultaniously. 'Oh, that's why. I finally remembered why we're friends!' I snickered silently.
And what Ella said earlier about me being 'in denial' totally not true. I'll even say it,"I, Cory, have a crush on my best friend of 3 years, Tom. . .but, I know we'll never work out if we ever. . .ya' know, 'hook up'. We're too different. I'm more of an introvert, him an extrovert, I'm in the Book Club and he's in the swim team; We're bestfriends from completely different worlds, so I guess only time can tell if I was right.
