Dolia ^

Ron's P.O.V

All I could do was flicked the lighter on and off as the flame slowly dances its rhythm, that night as a child I could hear was the bombs dropping down in London destroying everything we knew including our home, even taking the lives of women and children trying to escape the raid to survival.

The lighter reminded me of the flames flaring and blazing all around every house and building collapsing around me, Reggie, and me mum as we quickly grabbed anything that was important or useful to us and head to the bomb shelters. "Boys quickly grab anything important okay." Me mum calmly instructed us to get our important belongings, yet I could tell she was scared, distress, and worried in her eyes but she kept being calm as she always has.

We hurriedly headed outside the door quickly towards the bomb shelters down the street as fast as we can to get far away from the bombs dropping from the sky.

"Waah, whaah."

Faintly, I heard a heavy sob crying behind the flames of destruction crumbling around us, it sounded like a child's cry in the distance away from us.

"Mum I'll be back."My eight-year-old self leaves me mum and Reg behind as I hear them shout at the distance." Ron what are u doin mate!" "Ronnie get back here now this instantly!"

I quickly scurried raced down the street ignoring their pleas and shouts when I turned a sharp corner towards a neighborhood bursting with heavy flames all over, clearly Ron could hear a child wails in the alleyways frightened to death due to the bomb raid.

Carefully, walking in the alleyway he finds a little girl about two or three years old wailing for her lost mum. "Hello." I gently spoke to the easily frightened child. "Where's your mum and dad?" I asked gently, only giving a shrug to my question. "Hey you can come with me and when this is over we can find them okay." She nodded in agreement. I picked her up gently and quickly head over to the bomb shelter where Reg and mum resided.

"Ronnie!!" Thank God you are okay!" Mum ran to give me a bone-crushing hug as I still hold the girl in my arms as she cried. "Did I tell you not to run..." She cut off as she looked at the little girl in my arm, the girl looked around the shelter in curiosity then looked at me mum then at Reg.

"Oh dear, is this why you ran off me boy? She asked as I nodded my head in response. "Well hello, sweetheart what's your name? The little girl did not reply when she waved shyly to me mum whispering a quiet hello. " Where's her mum, I bet she's looking for her crazy and in distress." Reggie intervened when he gets a closer looked at the toddler. "Hi little one." Reggie cooed at her. " I'm Reggie." he pointed at himself. "And that's me older brother Ronnie, he can be a real meanie towards everybody for no reason." He playfully pretended to whisper to her like I couldn't hear a damn thing. I glared at him seriously.

"Shut up Reg, you do the same thing too." Now boys that's enough you are scaring her." Me mum interjected before me and my brother started to bicker with one another. "Wonny?" I looked down at the girl in shock. "What did you say?" Wonny." she tugs my coat playfully as she grew a smile at me. "Mum she said my name"! In excitement. "It seems like she's taking a liking to you Ronnie, the way she looks at you shows that you are very protective around her." Me mum stroke her cheeks tenderly as she always does with me and my brothers lovingly.

The raid went on for an hour in a half, until Mum had an idea. "Why don't we sing rain rain go away children, it would be a splendid idea for the planes to go away." Mum gleefully suggested her idea until the raid is over. "Would you also like to sing together as a group little one." I asked the child, in the gleam in her hazel eyes she nods her head. We all sang together as me, Reg, and the child followed me Mum's had gestures pretending for the song.

"Rain, Rain go away come again, some other day."
"Rain, Rain go away come again, come again some other day.

We repeated the repetition of the nursery rhyme again until we didn't hear the bombs dropping anymore. " I think it's over mum, I think we actually made the bomb planes go away." My innocent self said. We headed outside and the whole neighborhood was in disaster. We looked for the little girls mother around the neighborhood when we saw a beautiful woman running towards us. "Oh god Dolia, oh thank god you are okay!!" She grabbed her child and cried in tears of joy to find her child safe and sound.

"Thank you for protecting my daughter, we got separated in the crowd, i don't know how to repay you." She told us in gratitude in her sweet voice. "Its not problem, you are our new neighbor down the street right." That's right." I'm Corrine-Lynn and this is my baby girl Dolia." Dolia so that's her name." I thought. "Well you and your precious girl are welcome to come over to have tea and snacks anytime my dear." My mum kindly asked.

"That would be nice Mrs. ..."Violet Kray my dear and these are me boys Ronnie and Reggie." She pointed which one was which. "Well nice to meet you all, I'm really grateful you welcome us despite the war going on and people not taken to kindly to us black and Caribbean folks around the East end."

She spoke sadly due to how she and Dolia are treated, I wish i could protect Dolia from bastards who try to harm her just because of her and her mum's skin color. "I know my dear, people are very cruel but we would never let anything happen to you and your baby." Mum reassured the forlorn woman. "Thank you Mrs. Violet." Please call me Violet dear." Come lets go to my house for a warm cup of tea and snacks." Mum said as we head back home.
