⠀THE MORNING had broken out like a sweet golden melody, full of promise and new hopes for something better to come. eli had woken up and for once expected something good to happen today, something would go her way and then tomorrow would be even better because she wouldn't be alone anymore — she'd at least have one of her parents with her.
thrift shopping was not a part of the plan, and neither was packing up all their things to head back to seoul right away. that hope that came with the sun this morning drained away like all the heat in the cup of coffee sitting in front of her. it was cold and tasted bitter now.
"stop making that face." taehyung was folding the bedsheets and putting the pillows back on the mattress that had fallen during the night. "i'm not making a face." the kid shot back.
it was a lie. she was scowling and glaring the best she could for the last fifteen minutes since they got back to the hotel room. whatever good time they had at the thrift store had disappeared and the only thing that was left was the attitude and looks that could probably kill. ever since taehyung got off the phone and said they were leaving right away, eli had been shooting daggers with her eyes from across the room.
"we don't even know who your dad is." taehyung doesn't even know how many times he's said this, "we can't just drop you off at some mans house and then dip." he said.
the truth to that is probably what made eli more mad. it seemed so unfair to come this close, to literally be in the same city and suddenly have to be thrown back to the shit hole of a life back in seoul where the kid seems to take more care of the parent. if it wasn't for the nice maid that gave her an extra chocolate on her pillow, eli might have knocked over the coffee in anger.
"i'm going to shower. please pick up your things." taehyung said, only receiving a cold stare in return from the kid. he sighed, picking up his clothes and going into the bathroom. the water was hot and would probably turn his skin a light pink, but the heat felt good as he massaged his muscles while rubbing the bar of soap over his limbs. with eyes closed he got lost in the soothing feeling of the water beating down in bare skin, the smell of soap and coconut shampoo filling his nose.
time was lost as he showered, spinning endless and making taehyung forget how long he's been in there. it must have been a while, because when he stepped out the mirror was fogged over and only messed by his palm so he could see his reflection. his foot hit something, and it happened to be eli's backpack sitting in front of the sink.
he chuckled lightly, realizing he had told her to clean her things up but then locking them in here while he took ages to finish up. "sorry eli, i'll be right out." taehyung hoped he spoke loud enough for her to hear.
