Nola Part 2
—————————
The weather in New Orleans was gloomy and overcast as light showers flooded the streets of my city. Ariana and I were back to visit while on a month break before the next leg of the Sweetener Tour.
Ariana leans her head against my shoulder as I lean my head on the foggy, chilled-up window of the Escalade Roshad was driving the three of us around in. Ariana was sipping away at the to-go daiquiri my momma got on Bourbon earlier at one of the many stops on that drunk party strip. We just left my parents home, making our way deep into the French Quarter per my request.
I had a lot to show my girlfriend. I wanted to take her down Frenchman Street where there were less tourists (which meant not a lot of crowds), more culture, food trucks and trailers, more artistry and live jazz bars.
The faint smell of late-night tourist drinking and aftermath of party central every night on the famous Bourbon Street still prominent in the air and it was almost mid-day. Some aromas of the city coming from restaurants with local Louisiana cuisine lingered everywhere. Home.
It was still my home with all of the bile and piss from drunk humans and all of the trash in clumps along the these tiny one-way streets that city clean-up hadn't made it's rounds yet. The constant road construction making it almost impossible to get around.
I could still hear ambulances or NOPD sirens in the distance or the party buses along with the second lines on the street. I missed seeing the street performers and artists the show off their amazing talents day in and day out here.
Trust me I came a long way from street preforming everyday. I missed the unorganized bumper to bumper traffic in this tiny bowl of a city that was always severely crowded. I loved this party city from the bottom of my heart.
I mean my hometown was a major tourist city mainly because of Mardi Gras for a month every year or the NFL and NBA teams this city hosts, not only but many famous people live here or like Ariana come here on tour and/or our play in our several music, cuisine, and heritage festivals that happen every year. There was just always something exciting going on. Pride Festival and Voodoo fest are by far my favorites. I can't wait for Ariana to experience those!
Roshad dropped us off at the cross walk on Decatur Street and I carefully helped my somewhat tipsy girlfriend out of the car, her cup still in hand. She giggles as I open the umbrella handing it to her for a second. I quickly lean back in the vehicle telling him we would uber back to my townhouse near Toulouse Avenue (yes this is an actual street in New Orleans) near the quarter. He nodded and drove back to my family home back in the Westbank.
I grab the umbrella from Ariana holding the umbrella over us while I lean down and peck her lips. She smiles grabbing my hand as we casually walk down Decatur Street to grab some beignets from Café Du Monde. Ariana's been begging for beignets and coffee since the second we flew in a few hours ago and of course I have to please my girlfriend.
"Baby, are you sure we don't need Roshad? There's a lot of people here. I just toured here a few months ago." Ariana says a little nervous, biting her bottom lip and gripping my hand tighter as she sees the amount of people at the landmark in front of us."No, I got you. Everything will be fine. We'll take it to-go and head to my townhouse if you want to, beautiful." I say to her as she nods in response. I shake the umbrella and close it as we make our way in the entrance soon noticing wide eyes, sudden gasps, and phone lights.
We politely smile and wave at everyone while proceeding to walk up to the order booth, hoping no one came up to us. The girl at the register looks at me for a second as if she seen a ghost then smiles widely. The both of us immediately recognizing each other.
"bitch.... Y/n how are you girl?! I haven't seen you in a minute girl! Who's the fine dime you got on your arm?" The girl aka my best friend Jordan says laughing.
"Oh my god, Jojo I almost didn't recognize you in that uniform! I'm good, I'm great, actually. Um...this is my incredible beautiful and amazingly talented girlfriend, Ariana." You grin at Jordan and wrap your arm around Ariana bring her closer.
"Hi it's great to meet you! I've heard so much about yours and y/n's adventures it's crazy!" Ariana says to her giggling and smiling at me toward the last part. She pecks my lips softly and turns back to my best friend. We soon noticed that we had the entire block's attention by now so we unfortunately had to make this as quick as we could.
"Y'all are so cute! It's great to meet you too! I'm sorry we have to cut this short but I do have to take your order... We definitely need to catch up soon." Jordan said sensing my now anxious vibes as Ariana and start looking around at the people sitting at the many tables around us.
I nod at her telling her my order and grabbing the coffees from her while Ariana orders an Uber.
"I'll text you later, Jojo. Love you!" I say as I hand Ari the coffee and I grab the bag of beignets from Jordan. Jordan waves me off, chuckling and shaking her head before going back to work.
Ariana's Uber pulls up quickly almost as if they knew who she was. We get in and I lean forward telling the driver an address a block away from my townhouse so it wouldn't completely give away Ariana's location where her super fans could stalk her. I'd rather save her the headache.
The driver begins our quick five minute ride as I hear a loud crinkle which happens to be the bag of powdered sugar-topped, fluffy pastries we just bought. I look over to see my girlfriend's nose covered in powdered sugar.
"Baby, you already got into the beignets!" I rolled my eyes, laughing at her. She giggles and shrugs continuing to eat away. I sit the two coffees in the cupholder in front of me before I lick my thumb and run it over her nose wiping the remanence of sugar, making her scrunch her nose. I place my thumb it back in my mouth, tasting it.
Holy shit. Heaven literally.
"I'm only eating one for now, I swear!" She says raising her hands up, mocking surrender while barely being able to hold her giggles in.
"You're so adorable, babygirl. I love you. I have so much to show you." I whisper to her as I place my hand on her bare thigh that was not covered by her immensely oversized sweater and pull her close to me.
I grip her waist in my hands as I pull her close to me, peppering sneaky kisses along her sharp jawline.
She turns her head slightly as my lips brush hers and she places her hands on my chest. She began to whisper against my lips.
"Show me everything, baby. I can't wait to see how and where you grew up from your point of you and really experience this amazing city I've always loved and enjoyed vacationing here with mom and frankie back when I was a toddler. I love you more than anything. I just believe we're soulmates. oh my wow... I talk to m.." I interrupt her by grabbing her chin and pressing my lips to hers.
She deepens the kiss and sucks on my bottom lip before biting it and pulling it away with her softly then releasing it with a plop.
I rest my forehead against hers as I soon feel the car we were in come to a stop. I peck her lips quickly as I huff in sexual frustration and quickly move to grab everything I need to exit the car. I grab her hand as we make our way out on the curb and thank the driver.
We watch him drive off before I start pulling her down the street to my townhouse.
"Your adventure awaits, baby girl!" I say to her as we make it to my front door.
