'I AM NOT A CROOK'

SHAWN WAS READING off list of clubs for Cory to join while Nat and Liam walked up to them. "Football?"

"No no, pain. Cleats in the face."

"Modern dance?"

"No, Lotta girls. Tights. No."

"Drama club?"

"No. Lotta boys. Tights. No."

"Well Matthews," Liam says peering over at the list "that's the list."

"None of these are me. I mean here I am, going into my eighth year of public school education and who am I, really?" Cory says

"Well you could join the art club or-" Natalia says and Liam cuts in

"Join basketball, I just did." Liam says

"No. No. Those are Nat's and Liam's things. I need a club for ordinary guys like me who don't know who they are and aren't great at anything." Cory says

"So start one." Shawn says

"Oh, I probably won't get in." He says

"Now I know why you have grey hairs." Liam says turning to Nat who shrugs and the bell rings for class to start "See you guys later." He says and walks to his class while the others say a quick bye to him

"Curly Fry, you got a lot of good and amazing qualities." Nat says as they walk to class

"You're honest, loyal, and decent." Shawn says

"Housebroken too. I'm a stinking beagle." Cory says

"A cute beagle." Natalia adds as they take their seats in class

"What am I?" Shawn asks

"A clingy border collie." Nat says

"A cute one?"

"Of course muffin."

"All right people, this just got off the wire - elections for next year's eighth grade class president will be held next week." Mr. Turner says

"Who cares" Cory says while sneezing

"Detention" Mr. Turner says copying Cory

"Sorry!"

"You people whine and moan about the way things run around here. Well, this is chance to change things by getting involved. But remember this is a student election -"

"Not a popularity contest" the whole class says

"I think we've been spending to much time together. The point is, your class president doesn't have to be a cheerleader or a quarterback. You'll be better off with someone who's honest, loyal, and decent."
