THESE UNUSUAL FEELINGS

Vice President Yang sat at his table while he finished signing off some important document. It wasn't until the knock on the door, diverted his attention away from signing. "Yes."
"You called for me?" Sicheng bowed to the Vice President, unsure why he wanted him at his office.
"I did." He looked at him with a smile.
Sicheng was already weary of Yang. He knew whatever he wanted, it couldn't have been good.
"As you know, Taeyong decided to resign as the team leader. So, I have decided to promote you to team leader." He stood up, looking at his subordinate with calm eyes, before putting his hand on his shoulder.
"But why me? I haven't done anything special. Johnny or Jaehyun could've been a better fit than me." Sicheng kept his head down and was unsure why he had been placed as a team leader. None of what he had done in the NIS accounted to the title Taeyong or the others had accomplished in their life.
"That!...is exactly why I have chosen you as the team leader. Taeyong seemed to have been digging deep into some things which would eventually reopen wounds of Jungwoo. As an elder and someone who had experienced death of close friends at the NIS, it is not worth it. Rather I wish the team mourns for his loss than do unnecessary things. In the meantime, I will assign a simpler case. Doyoung will receive the details soon and inform you. I will also put up an official notice of your promotion. How does that sound?" Yang patted his back, but Sicheng knew something about this was off. Yet, all he could do was nod and agree with this sudden promotion.
"Thank you Vice President. I will fulfill my position as the team leader well." He bowed before leaving the room.
"As you should." Yang whispered to himself before sitting in his chair again. He turned around to admire his view of the city from his office. He sighed in admiration of what his success brought him towards. Yang soon opened his drawer and pulled out an old picture during his youth. Two other men were on the opposite side of him, smiling brightly in the image. "If it wasn't for you two, I wouldn't have come this far." He scoffed before putting the image back in his drawer and locked it up.
As soon as Sicheng left Yang's office, he immediately texted Taeyong, who had been scheming with Khya at his apartment.
Taeyong, I think Yang is planning a distraction. I got promoted to team leader in your stead. I'm not sure if he knows we're onto something but he is definitely suspicious of you. Lay low in the meantime. Sicheng typed quickly before deleting the message to remove any visual traces in case his phone was being tapped into.
