You hear Space Western and for the majority of people, minds race to Firefly, that wonderfully written, beautifully acted yet ridiculously short-lived show of the early 2000s.
If you're slightly older, of course – yeah, like me – you might remember a certain 80s cartoon by the name of BraveStarr that featured quite possibly my favourite SF character of all time: the animatronic stallion, Thirty-Thirty (fifty completely worthless Tevun-Krus dollars to anyone who can tell me the name of his gun, without Googling, of course!).
There really is an awful lot of this fantastic sub-genre out there and there's a whole lot right here on Wattpad, too, even though you may not even realize it! Space Western seems to be one of the more versitle subgenres of scifi that lends itself to a number of others. Here, you'll find some obvious plays on Space Western scifi (why, spurs and cowboy hats, of course), to the more subtle (politics and discrimination), spiced up with a lotta talkin' like this (especially in our newest installment of Smith and Jones).
But this is in danger of turning into an article so let's keep this brief, shall we?
