CJ woke to the sound of his alarm. The time was 6:30 am, the usual time he wakes on an ordinary working day. He uncovers and sits up, leaving behind the still damp pillow. He looks at his clock. He doesn't use his phone for an alarm, but he has a clock on his side table that is a little outdated, but it still works, so why replace it? He turns off the alarm and stretches a little before standing up, and putting on a pair of briefs, and a temporary pair of shorts. Afterward, making his way toward his bathroom.
A couple splashes of water to his face is all he needs to be nice and awake, and be ready for coffee. He grabs his phone and sends a quick good morning text to Reid, and continues to the kitchen. He uses an older coffee maker, the kind you just plug in, place a filter inside, fill the reservoir full of water, and add a scoop of grounds. He enjoys his coffee with no sugar, but he adds a little bit of cream to take away from the bitterness.
Walking over to the kitchen table, he sits and texts Reid for a little bit. He's usually a slow texter, but right now, he's just relaxing before the day starts, so he has a short conversation with his boyfriend.
Reid: Hey CJ, good morning to you as well <3
CJ: So what are your plans for today?
Reid: Today is my trial-run in the Kitchen, let's hope these paws can still make a beautiful plate, like the old days.
CJ: You'll do great! I know you will.
Reid: Thanks, you have a great day.
CJ: You too, Reid.
CJ heads to the workshop where he keeps his exercise equipment. He tries to work out every morning. After about 1 hour of working out, he goes to take a shower. He gets dressed in a red short-sleeve shirt with a good pair of work jeans, along with his favorite pair of boots. He goes to his truck and drives to the farm, which is just a couple hundred yards away.
In his farm, he has mainly an assortment of veggies. He has a section dedicated to different breeds of tomato, in another one, he has all kinds of greens. He also has potatoes, cucumbers, onions, and carrots. He sells all this produce to local markets, restaurants, and the studio where Reid works. It's a well-known farm in the city. Furries from all walks of life know about this farm, and the beautiful crops it produces.
First he makes his rounds through all the sections of different produce with large buckets checking to see what, if anything, can be harvested. Today was a small day, not very much to be had, but this didn't bring down his spirits. He has a bucket of potatoes ready to go, and a half-bucket of the best tomatoes he could see. Once that is completed, after about 2-and-a-half hours, he takes his industrial, 100-foot garden hose and begins to spray down all the crops.
It is now approaching 1:00pm and CJ is bringing the hose back to where it's usually kept when not in use.
"Oh, it's about 1:00, I need to send Reid my daily mid-day check up." He said to himself.
Every day around 1:00 CJ would send Reid a message asking how the day is going. Reid loves receiving these messages. It's a short little distraction from the stresses of the day. So he always looks forward to it.
He passed under one of the large trees on the farm. This tree gives a lot of shade and is a nice and cool place to be on a super hot day. Today however, was not too hot. It had stormed the night before, causing CJ to have a rough night.
CJ is scared of very loud noises, and storms have a lot of them. He may not be able to sleep and can sometimes cry if too frightened. Last nights storm was a big one. There was fast wind, and lightning strikes all around. Not the best of circumstances for him.
This tree CJ was standing under, was one thing to be struck during the night. There was a large branch that usually reached out approximately 10-15 feet. However with the strike last night, it was hanging by a literal thread. Unfortunately, this thread chose a very specific point in time, to give way. This large branch was coming down, and there was only one obstacle in it's path.
All CJ heard was the snap of the final twig breaking away from the trunk.
