Commander Bacara x Jedi Padawan Reader

Summary: Bacara's s/o almost dies in a battle against the Separatists. Bacara isn't himself anymore because he's worried about his Jedi.

Warnings: Near-death experience

The battle was supposed to be easy. Then the extra reinforcements came for the Separatists. Hundreds upon hundreds of droids came out of nowhere, making dozen of the Republic troopers die or become injured. Ki Adi Mundi and his padawan, Y/N L/N, were stressed from killing droids and trying to save their men at the same time.

"There's way too many of them! We need extra reinforcements! We're not going to win this fight!" you yelled over the commotion of the clanking droids, blaster fire, and the cries of your injured men. You ducked as a blaster bolt nearly hit your chest.

"Focus my young padawan. We may win this, after all, you never know if a miracle happens." Ki Adi shouted as he sliced a droid in half.

"I think Commander L/N is right! We don't have a chance of winning this! We need to retreat, General Mundi!" Bacara yelled as he roundhouse kicked a droid and shot the head clean off a droid. Beside him, a shiny fell down as he was shot in his chest plate.

"I'm trapped! I can't do-" you got cut off from the rest of your sentence as a droid shot you in the chest and as another droid shot you in the leg. You tried to call out again but you were already starting to pass out. You heard Bacara yell your name somewhere near you, but you couldn't respond. You saw darkness as you finally passed out cold in a puddle of blood.

Bacara was a mess. He hadn't left your side since you had gone to the medbay. He hadn't eaten in hours, his comm was off, and he had been crying.

"Cyar'ika, please, wake up. I can't live without you in my life. You're my everything. Don't die on me, please. I don't want to lose you." Bacara whimpered.

"Is my padawan up yet?" Ki Adi said walking into the room. Bacara jumped and let go of your hand not wanting to get caught. "I see my padawan isn't up yet. Bacara you don't look so good. Can I do anything, get you anything? Maybe you should go hang out with your brothers or something."

"With all due respect, sir, I'm staying in the medbay. It was my fault, that she's like this. I wasn't able to help her and she was surrounded by those kriffing Separatist droids. I should've been able to do something!" Bacara shouted as he slumped down in defeat.

"It wasn't your fault. I'm her master, I should've retreated. We Jedi aren't used to war, we're keepers of the peace. I guess I thought we could win that battle. I'm sorry Bacara, I know you love her." Ki Adi said softly.

Bacara's eyes widened. "Sir? You know about us? The relationship and everything? I didn't mean to break the rules! Please don't-"

"Bacara it's okay, don't worry. I won't tell, I promise. I have wives, children, a family of my own. I know what it's like to love people, and I want you to experience that as well. Besides, you make my padawan happy and I'm glad. She's had a rough past, although I'm sure she's told you about it." Ki Adi reassured his commander. Bacara nodded and looked over at his cyar'ika, still unconscious and limp.

"Thank you, sir. If you don't mind I would like to stay in the medbay until she wakes up." If she ever wakes up, Bacara thought bitterly. The Jedi nodded and left the room wondering if he should contact the Jedi healers or not. The clone medics were good at their jobs, but Force healing always worked.

——

Two weeks had passed and Bacara was unstable. Multiple cups of caf every half-hour were the only things to keep him going. He hadn't gotten much sleep, maybe about 8 hours worth since you were brought to the medbay. He only left your side when the General ordered him to go to the mess hall or to hit the showers. He had been making his way back to the medbay when you had started to wake up.

He had found you sitting up in the small cot looking at your surroundings. He watched your brow furrow in that way he adored, as you wondered how you got to the medbay. He couldn't take it anymore and the commander wept. You jumped at the sound of your cyare crying.

"Bacara? What happened? How did I get here? What's going on?" you questioned as you looked at the crying commander in front of you.

"You almost died! You were out cold for weeks! You scared me! I can't live without you!" Bacara managed to say through his tears. He wrapped his arms around you and cried into the crook of your neck. You ran your fingers through his soft hair, hoping to calm him down. "I almost lost you, cyar'ika," he added.

"But you didn't. I'm here now, with you, and I'll always be. You're not going to lose me, ever. I will fight for you until this war ends. I promise, cyare. I love you and I want you to know that I always will." you said softly and caressed his cheek before kissing him, passionately.

"I love you, too. And I will do everything I can because I am not going to lose you." Bacara said determined.
