After her

Chapter 1 : Rain

It was raining  for a while now. There was water everywhere, streets was full of water puddles with cars going up and down honking and splashing the muddy water everywhere . It was not easy to walk around without getting a black dirty stain or two on clothes. And to top it all I was wearing my most expensive suit. Normally I would  have taken a cab but it was end of the month and if I wanted to eat dinner I had to walk from bus stand to my Appartment. It was difficult but not impossible that's what I told myself when I left the office and I was really proud of myself when I reached my Appartment clean and dry . I folded my umbrella and headed upstairs.

"For the love of the god"
I cried as tons of Water poured all over me creeping down the roof and between the stairs. I thought that was the worst thing that could  happen  to me that night but I was dead wrong.

I quickly changed in shorts and Tshirts,picked up my mobile charger,  locked the Appartment  door and rushed downstairs.  I was hungry and it was almost 11 pm the pizza place might close any moment and after that bread and egg were my only options left. Fortunately I got in time and ordered a large pizza with extra cheese.. the usual. I sat down in the corner , plugged my phone. My phone was dead since morning and I was so busy for entire day that I forgot to charge it. It was almost 11 now, the place was almost empty with a few tired office workers waiting for there orders to come in. It was so silent that I could hear the A/C that was on opposite wall. I enjoyed this quiet and calm atmosphere of this place that's why I usually come in here.

"The extra large pizzas with extra cheese and vegies , I have been summened" a young man in his 20s shouted from the front gate at took the sit right next to it. He came in with three other people, two of the were of his age and an old man.

Now everybody was looking at them with pride and honor. Some of them were even clapping as if he was going to war for them. Instead he was summoned to die for no reason far away from earth alone.

The moment  I heard him I started to panic , I could also have also be summoned. My heart beats were off the chart, I needed to relax , my phone was still not on. I had only one thought  running in my mind " not me, not me , not me , pls not me"

"Sir we are sorry but we have given your order to the young man over there, he is summoned  you know"
The pizza I ordered was taken to them and I was handed a serving of garlic bread as retribution. But I didn't  care about it now all I wanted to know was if I had to spend rest of my life on the spacecraft wondering aimlessly in space. They started summoning us commoners  22years ago based on the mandatory  test everyone take when they turn 18 . My score was above average but I never wanted to risk my life for no reason and leave my old parents behind. I had a eye condition when I was young so I faked my madical report and lived a normal common life to  postponed my departure from earth. I was tested resently at my office and they must have revised my medical reports so my chances to get summoned  were  very high. My phone was really old and I repaired  it myself a number of times. It was so old and broke that it took almost 10 min for power back up.

It finally buzzed and the national anthem started playing with the message popping on the screen

"YOU HAVE BEEN SUMMONED "
