Chapter 2- Dipsticks & Dingbats

I pressed my lips together and walked in.

"Hey!" I said
"Hey,you... I've been trying through to you for like the past 10 minutes" he replied ,turning towards me.
"Oh,I'm sorry" I said, rummaging through my bag trying to find my phone..

"Oh..I think I left it at home in a bid to get here on time. I'm sorry for keeping you waiting."

"No problem" he said.

"So,why we're you trying to reach me? Is there a problem or something?" I asked.

"No..No..There's no problem. I was actually calling to tell you not to bother coming to work." He replied me.

Then,my brain started running wild. Was I about to be dismissed? Did he find out about the massive crush I had on him and decided that that wasn't a proper work ethic and decided that I couldn't work with him anymore?

I swallowed hard,then I said ;

"Is this some kind of dismissal ? I promise whatever you must have heard about me isn't true. It isn't, really."

"No,you're not getting dismissed. Not at all. I actually called to tell you to stay home and pack your bags. We're going on a trip to L.A. Business trip precisely. We're about to sign our biggest deal yet."He said, enthusiastically.

"Ok,ok..." I chuckled a bit.

Then I asked,

"What do you mean, we? We as in the both of us?" I asked.

I was already jumping in my head and making plans about how we were going to spend our time there.

"No, Charlotte is coming with us as well." He answered.

"Oh!"

That was all I managed to say. But it was good anyways. Time out with Krypton and the only person that actually knew I liked him.

Boy,I did a good job hiding my feelings.

"We leave at 11:30 pm" he said, jerking me back to reality.

"Ok,good. That leaves me with enough time to vet the rest of my bills." I said.

"Ok,but make sure to get here on time" he said, leaving the room.

I sighed and walked to my desk to finish up the work I had to do.

Then he suddenly halted in his steps and turned towards me.

"Make sure to bring some coats. It's gonna be snowing heavily there." He said.

"Oh...Thanks,I will." I said blushing a bit..

He then walked out.

Ouuu....He actually cares... I sang....

At about 12, I was done with the work I had to do.

Seeing that I forgot to bring my cellphone to work,I made way to use the telecom system downstairs.

Actually, Charlotte wasn't at work yet. She took a sick leave about two weeks ago. She had actually recovered but being the good friend that I am and with the potential doctor in me, I told her to take bed rest while she was still on her meds. I made her promise not to come to work for at least those two weeks, but seeing that Krypton wants both of us on a business trip with him, I guess she'd get a chance off my clutches.

But the craziest thing happened. I saw C on my way downstairs and believe me I almost killed her.

"What are you doing here,you crazy woman??" I asked furiously

"Okay..Funny story..So this morning, Krypton called to ask if I could make it to the business trip this morning. Seeing that as a good opportunity to set you both up, I agreed." She ranted, smiling sheepishly.

I all but smiled.

"That was a good decision" I said clearing my throat and trying to feign seriousness.
"Buu-ut, you're not totally fine. For pete's sale, you just had temporary CFS." I said in pity.

" Would you care to repeat that?" She asked.

" Temporary CFS" I replied her.

"You see that? It's temporary babe and I'm not gonna die from one unnecessarily existing illness. Jas, trust me, I'm fine. If I don't feel too good, I promise I'd come back to Cali." She said in a make believe tone.

Okay...so CFS is short for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome caused by not eating enough and it can get really bad. So, trust me when I say I've known C all my life and she never ate as in ate. She always behaved like a small girl being forced to eat her veggies.

"Okay,okay. I hear you, but one tiny headache, you're back to Cali. Period'' I said and she just laughed.

"Now let's go get Lunch!!" I said.

"Now,like right now ?" She asked

"No, not at all C. I'm just asking you to a date next week" I replied with sarcasm lacing my tone.

"Of course, I mean now, you dipstick!!" I raved.

"Not now, Jas. I've got a lot of work to cover before this trip and I'm not so hungry to add" She replied

"No excuses. Come on, C. You know you can easily transfer the work to Chris and no one will beat you up for that. And more so, you're not skipping another meal on my watch. Tell me,did you have breakfast ?" I ranted

"Does a cookie count?" She says closing one eye.

"You mentally derailed dingbat!! When you die, I won't attend your burial!" I all but screamed.

"Aww...that was so harsh...You deci....." She tried to say before I cut her short.

"Shut your mouse trap and come with me. I'm treating you to a 3 in 1 breakfast, lunch and dinner." I said before pulling her with me.

"Wait..wait" she struggled.
"Where on earth do you get all that power from..You're like the size of a peanut and you manage to pull me like that? Who are you, girl?" She asked

"First of all...peanut's just hyperbole and I'm an undercover agent for the FBI" I said nodding my head and blinking.
"Now, let's go!" I commanded.

"Wait, I haven't told Chris about the work yet." She complained.

"You can just text him, duh! Eat first and worry later. We still have to go home and pack for our trip" I said convincingly.

"Seems like someone is in excited for that trip" she drawled

"Shut up" I said quickly.

Then we walked over to the Cafeteria.

Phewww!!! You see how much time it took just to get her to eat. She's an even worse drama queen than I am!
