Mew had no idea how he was going to break up with Gulf. He loved this boy more than he's ever loved somebody and his heart ached at just the thought of being without Gulf.

So here Mew was, driving back to his brand new home with Gulf in his passenger seat. He rehearsed what he was going to say, over and over again in his head. Nothing sounded right. None of this was right. But when Mew came to the conclusion that it would be safer for Gulf this way, breaking up seemed just a tiny bit easier. Mew couldn't put Gulf in danger like this. The further away Gulf was from Mew, the safer he would be.

When they arrived at Mew's home, Gulf cheerily skipped inside and sat on the sofa, "I know it's just full of boxes right now, but it's already kind of homey, you know?"

Mew just sighed as he trudged over to sit beside Gulf, "You know I love you, right?"

Gulf knitted his eyebrows as Mew reached for his hands, "Of course I do. Why? You're worrying me."

"I don't even know where to start," Mew sighed again.

Confused, Gulf pressed on, "Start with what?"

Mew looked into Gulf's eyes pitifully, "We can't be together."

"What?" Gulf sounded broken. And he was. "Why? You just said you loved me and I love you too, so what's the problem here?"

With a frown, Mew tried to explain, "I messed up, okay?"

Gulf scoffed, running a hand through his hair, "What? Did you cheat on me? No, you have time to cheat on me, you're always busy. Unless you murdered someone and you're about to go to prison, I don't see why we can't work this out."

Mew chuckled softly, "No, don't jump to conclusions."

"I have to!" Gulf teared up, "You're not giving me any sort of explanation so I have to come up with something. I need closure at least. If you don't tell me why you're breaking up with me, then I'm going to end up coming up with a thousand reasons I wasn't good enough."

His frown deepened, "That's not it at all. You did nothing wrong, I just," Mew sighed, "I can't tell you. And to keep you safe, it's better if you don't know the details. We just," another sigh, "We can't be together."

Gulf scoffed and pulled his hands away from Mew, "Give me one good reason. Things were finally starting to get better again and now you're breaking up with me?"

Mew shook his head, his breathing shaky, "I don't want to. Trust me, I want to be with you more than anything!"

"Then why?" Gulf stood up, tears running down his cheeks, "Why can't you just tell me? This isn't fair to me or you!"

Knowing he had to go through with this, Mew looked down at the floor, "You should go."

Gulf blinked a few times, his lip quivering, "So that's it then? Almost two months of the best experiences, the best laughs, the best dates, and nothing but pure love for each other, and you're just throwing it all away."

There was volume in Mew's silence.

"Right," Gulf nodded, frustration taking over, "Well this was your last chance." He grabbed his coat and began walking to the door, "You won't be getting another one, Mr. Suppasit."

As soon as Gulf left, Mew let his tears fall. Breaking up with Gulf was so much harder than he expected it to be. Mew felt as if his heart wasn't beating and his stomach was doing backflips. He caved in on himself, clutching his stomach as he sobbed. He knew he loved Gulf, but why did this hurt so much.

The first thing that Gulf did was drive to Pear's house. He knew that Mild was having dinner there and he needed his best friends right now. He needed his family.

"Gupi?" Pear was surprised to open her door to find a teary eyed, rosy cheeked Gulf.

The boy broke down at the comforting sound of Pear's voice, falling into her arms. Pear had no idea what happened, but she embraced her little brother, stroking his hair and rubbing his back in an attempt to soothe him. And it helped. Pear always knew what to do to comfort Gulf.

Pear managed to calm Gulf down enough to help him to the living room sofa where he sat next to Mild. Gulf sniffled and took a few deep breaths, preparing to tell his friends about the catastrophic conversation he'd just had with Mew.

Mild shared a look of concern with Pear before turning to Gulf, "What happened?"

Gulf sighed and wiped his tears away, "P'Mew broke up with me."

"What?" Pear scoffed, "Why the hell would he do that?"

Shrugging, Gulf looked down at his fidgeting fingers, "I don't know," he teared up again, "He said he still loved me, but we couldn't be together anymore."

Mild scoffed, "I'm so confused."

Gulf sniffled, "Yeah, me too."

Pear shook her head, clearly upset, "No, this doesn't make any sense. He still loves you, but whatever reason he has for splitting up with you, he can't share." She rolled her eyes, "I'm going to kill him."

"Just to play devil's advocate here," Mild sighed, "Maybe he was just trying to protect you. He may have had a really good reason and he felt like it was too dangerous for you to get tangled up in."

Gulf sniffled, "I don't care! I don't care how awful, or heart breaking, or disgusting the reason was. I deserve to know."

Mild nodded, hugging Gulf to his side so that the younger boy's head rested on his shoulder, "I know you do."

"Now I'm just stuck with making up reasons and jumping to conclusions," Gulf's voice broke, "I just want to know what I did wrong."

Pear sat on the other side of Gulf, rubbing his back, "Shh, shh, shh. You did nothing wrong, Gupi."

Mild stroked Gulf's raven black hair as the boy sobbed, "Hey, you'll be okay. I promise."

Gulf stayed there, between his friends until he cried himself to exhaustion, and fell asleep on Mild's shoulder. Pear just let Mild hold Gulf as they slept, covering them with a blanket.

As she lay in bed that night, Pear debated whether or not she should send a text to Mew to give her input on the situation. She sighed, voting against the idea and putting her phone down, thinking to herself, 'Gupi deserves more than that pathetic break up. And Mew deserves a swift kick in the ass. If he won't tell Gulf why he broke up with him, then I'll get it out of him. Gupi's been through enough pain and suffering. No more.'
