Same shit different day.
As I turn 18 I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life.
All I want is football but, at the moment I believe it is out of reach.
I'm in my final year of school and soon I will have to apply for colleges.
My mother and father are pushing me to travel and "find myself" but, I already know what I want and that is to play football, professionally.
My daydream is snatched from my mind as my teacher shouts, "Karia, please pay attention we all know you have no interest in being here but please for everyone else's sake listen."
I can feel myself go red.
I hate when I'm spoken to directly I front of others.
Anxiety is my enemy.
I'm kept awake every night thinking about what's coming, yet I have no idea.
The bell rings and the class is over.
My final classes of the day are PE, my favourite.
We play football all the time. It's mostly just me playing with all the boys in my class but I don't mind.
"Karia, come here please". My PE teacher shouts.
"Look Karia I feel like I must say this, you're wasting your time in school, you need to play football."
I am delighted by his comments.
He's a kind man and always looks after his students.
He explains to me that on Saturday there are scouts from England coming to Cork for one day only to watch for talent among young people.
This is it. My chance to make my dreams come true.
I prepare myself for the trails, Ian, my teacher gives me the details of the place and time.
My father will attend the trials with me.
He believes I am good enough. The trails are taking place in the local football pitch. It is Thursday now so i must get some sleep to prepare my mind for what's ahead.
This is my time to shine. I must do my very best, no I must succeed.
