I set the alarm on my phone for eight in the morning. I was sharing a room with Dylan, so he said he’d go with me to the bakery. Before Will and I left yesterday, Skylar and I exchanged phone numbers and decided that I would go over at eight thirty.
As soon as my alarm began going off, I heard Dylan groan. I sat up, laughing at his reaction, which resulted in Dylan throwing a pillow at my face. He missed terribly, only making me laugh harder.
“Ugh, it’s so early!” Dylan complained while slowly sitting up and stretching.
“Just remember, you agreed to help. I’m not forcing you to do anything.” I reminded him, before getting out of the small bed on my side of the room, and rummaging through my bags for something to wear. Dylan soon got up as well, and went into the bathroom while I changed.
About ten minutes later, we headed out of the hotel, and began making our way down the shop-filled streets towards the bakery. It was a warm and sunny day, and I was relieved when we finally reached the air-conditioned shop a few minutes later. When we walked in, Tommy was in his high-chair with some dry cereal on the tray. I heard some noises in the back room, where the kitchen must be. Dylan walked over to Tommy, and bent down slightly, so that he was at eye level with the toddler.
“Aw, who’s this little guy?” Dylan asked using a baby voice, and turning to look at me, eyebrows raised in question.
“That’s Tommy. You must be Dylan.” Skylar said, walking in from the back entryway. She had an apron around her waist, her hair up in a ponytail, and she was smiling brightly with her hand outstretched for Dylan to shake.
“That’s me.” Dylan answered, taking Skylar’s hand.
“Alrighty then. You boys ready to work?” She asked, smiling at both of us. We nodded and let her show us what to do. “So, for the most part I just need you to watch Tommy, but to start off you could set up a few things while he finishes his breakfast. Shop opens at ten.”
Dylan was assigned to wash off the prices that were drawn on the windows, while I washed off the tops of the tables and realigned the chairs. We had been working for about five minutes, Dylan and I just making small talk, before Sklyar walked in from the back room. She had finished washing off all the dishes from yesterday, and getting out the ingredients for the frosting.
“Do you guys mind if I turn on some music?” She asked us, while drying her hands on her apron.
“Not if you don’t mind Dylan’s awful singing.” I joked, earning a glare from Dylan and a laugh from Skylar.
“Not at all. I’m sure it’s not that bad.” Skylar said as she gave Dylan an amused but sympathetic look. And with that, she went back into the kitchen and turned on a playlist from her phone. ‘Something Big’ by Shawn Mendes began playing, and I could hear the sounds of kitchen utensils and bowls clinking together in the background. Dylan and I returned to our jobs, slightly dancing along to the music.
Dylan had finished washing off the windows, and soon made his way over to me to help finish up with the table tops. It only took about two minutes to finish, and by the time we put the rags in the hamper, Tommy was already struggling to break free from his high chair.
“Hold on little guy.” I muttered as I walked over to Tommy, and tried to get him out of the chair. After a minute of trying to figure out how to work the contraption, I finally discovered that, with some force, the tray slid outwards, creating a gap large enough for the toddler to slide in and out of. Tommy had already made it onto his feet somehow, and was reaching his arms out towards me. I took that as my cue to lift him up, while Dylan just watched. I tried to mimic Skylar’s actions from the previous day by carrying Tommy on my hip, and Dylan began to chuckle at the sight. I ignored him as I walked to the back of the shop.
I looked around a bit, before finally finding the kitchen. Skylar was standing in front of a large mixer, and was pouring some white liquid into the bowl as the mixer turned and turned.
“Hey Skylar,” I said as she lifted her gaze from the bowl to me, “what do you want us to do now? We’re finished with the tables and windows, and Tommy just finished eating.”
“If you could take Tommy upstairs to the playroom, and turn on the monitor that’s up there, that would be great. You two can stay up there with him until I put him down for his nap. Once I get the last of the ingredients mixed in, I should be ready to open up shop. The frosting has to cool and thicken for a bit anyway.” Skylar says to me, putting a few things in the sink in the process.
“Alright. Let us know if you need help with anything else.” I say to her. She nods at me, and then turns her attention back towards the frosting. I walk back into the main area of the shop, and find Dylan leaning against the counter by the register, looking at something on the wall across from him. I turn to see what he’s staring at, and see a corkboard with some pictures pinned to it. There’s a picture of Tommy on the right side of the board, and next to it is a picture of Skylar with a man. He has light brown hair, and green eyes. They look very happy in the photo, smiling and looking into each others’ eyes. Another picture is pinned to the left of the others, and in it are a man and a woman with a little girl in their arms. I remove my gaze from the board, and turn back to face Dylan.
“Skylar said to take Tommy upstairs and chill until it’s time for his nap. Are you comin’? Or are you gonna head back to the hotel?” I ask him, seeing the bored expression on his face.
“I think I’m gonna head back. You okay to babysit on your own?” Dylan asks me, pulling out his phone and seeing some texts from Ki and Will.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine. See you tonight I guess.” I say, and watch as Dylan walks through the small doors and outside toward the hotel. I make my way to the playroom, and turn on the baby monitor that I left on the shelf yesterday. As I set Tommy on the floor, he waddles over to his rug, and begins playing around with the race cars.

A/N: So... Yeah. I decided to update again before I go to bed. Sorry if this chapter sucks, but the second chapter was like twice as long as the first one so deal with it. I have the next chapter written already, but might not update until I get a few more prewritten. Plus, school starts tomorrow - UGH! GROSS - so please don't threaten to kill me for the few people who will actually read this. Anyway! I'd love to hear some opinions so far so...
