Mary watched in horror, seeing her husband return in such a state. The injury was not minor. There were few medicines to heal something like this successfully, it could be fatal.

'Bring him onto the bed.' She asked, waving them toward the cabin in desperation, the rain poured harder on the two men stumbling towards her. Geonhak placed him carefully on the bed of the parents. The wooden frame squeaked and the knitted blanket wrinkled under the body laid across it. The three of them looked over the giant cut and made sure to wipe away the blood with clean rags.

'Thank you. Now can you please leave, I, need everyone to give us space.' Mary softly pushed Geonhak and y/n toward the door and into the main room. It was an understandable gesture, the cabin was small and the rooms were not generous on space. Once the door shut it was just the sound of rain, some small cries leaked from the room and a dimly lit lantern set at the table in the middle of the home.

'Sorry she acted so rudely, even after you helped.' Y/n said quietly to not be heard by her parents.

GH: 'She is just scared... well, I should go back and get into my own bed.' He turned toward the doorway.

Y/n: 'Wait.'

She started to tear up, the reality finally hitting, her hand covered her mouth and her eyes squinted in sorrow.

'Do you think... he will be okay?' She asked, hoping he would be able to somehow know the future and say it was going to be fine but he didn't look confident.

'Your dad needs to stay in bed and have the cut cleaned regularly, anything unclean needs to be removed immediately and... he will have a chance.' He couldn't tell her a lie, he couldn't promise her anything.

'He's not going to die is he?' Y/n didn't seem to know how to stop herself from asking again, another question he clearly wouldn't know.

Geonhak walked to her and held her lightly, an arm respectfully on her back, he felt like he was crossing a line getting so close to a girl without parents permission. She put her forehead on his shoulder and cried silently until she stopped. He didn't look down at her, he held in place and waited. He was not brave enough to see her in such a state.

She parted from him and wiped her eyes dry.

GH: 'I think I should leave now, you should go to your room.'

He didn't want to risk being seen staying in the cabin so late in the night. The lights in the home were darkened, clearly the family wasn't having visitors, there would be talks if anyone saw him.

She nodded her head and walked into her room, shutting the door quietly, it creaked until it closed.

The wife of the homestead took it upon herself to make an announcement at the table outside after breakfast.

'My husband will not be able to lead in any work or participate, he has asked you all to repair the barn roof and check the fence of the  pasture to make sure no cattle can get out. Go on now, the day is wastin away. They stood and left their dishes.

Mary: 'Geonhak, I need to talk ta you.'

(What does she need him for?) Y/n wondered, sitting on the old wood bench while the other men divided the work.

Mary: 'Y/n if you're finished eating start on the animals now.' Her mom asked, clearly needing her to go.

'Yes ma'am.' Y/n stood up and walked aside the building, stopping only around the corner to listen.

(Something is wrong but why.)

Mary: 'I have been told that one of the mares you used yesterday was not tied up properly and that is why it escaped.'

'West was the Dream.' Geonhak x ReaderWhere stories live. Discover now
