Another day, another sliver of hope. The sun rose, just like any other day, but today, was not a normal day. Today, I had big plans. I rose early, as usual, and went to the kitchen. I was still living in Maddie and Darren's apartment. I made myself a quick nutritious breakfast, and went to the apartment building's gym for my early morning workout. I saw other people in the gym, which was very strange for this hour. I got straight into my workout, starting with 20 pull-ups. I put my earphones in and started listening to music while I did my warm-up. About 5 minutes into the actual muscle workout, I felt a familiar tap on my shoulder. Maddie stood there behind me. I took out my earphones and sat down on a nearby bench.
"What are you doing down here?" I asked her.
"Watching my boyfriend do his early morning workout." Maddie said cheekily.
"Wait, did you just say boyfriend?" I asked.
"Yes. I did. Is there something wrong with us being more than friends. I really like you." She said.
My heart warmed and I blushed, but I voiced my thoughts.
"I am just a little cautious getting super close with anyone right now." I said. 'More people to lose.' I thought. Maddie sat down next to me.
"I understand. Well, keep on going, I will see you in our apartment." Maddie walked away, looking slightly crushed.
'I really stuffed up', I thought. She looked back and smiled before walking out of the gym. I finished up my workout and went upstairs to the apartment. I found it empty, and quickly went and showered before lying on the couch. About 2 hours passed before anyone came in, and it was just somebody that worked for the hotel. It was a wily man, with messy black hair, and very small arms. As he went around his business, he seemed to be watching me closely. I quickly got up and walked over to him.
"Everything alright?" I asked.
"Yes sir, I will be on my way now." He said.
"Good." After he left, I picked up the phone Maddie had bought me and called her. She picked up on the third go.
"Hello. How are you?" I asked.
"I'm good. You?" She replied.
"Yeah good. Would you mind coming to the apartment quickly?" I asked.
"Sure, just give me a minute." She replied before hanging up.
About 20 minutes passed before she came. She walked in the door and saw me lying on the couch. I sat up and she took a seat next to me.
"Have you been here the whole time?" She asked.
"Yeah." I replied.
"Poor you." She hugged me, even though it wasn't really necessary.
"So, about this morning." I began, but I was silenced by a hostile glare.
"You are not going to crush me twice in one day." With that Maddie stood up to leave, but I pulled her back down.
"I wasn't going to." I said. She just raised an eyebrow. "I wanted to say, maybe a relationship is what I need to get me back on my feet."
"I feel like your just using me now." Maddie said suspiciously.
"I would never. I really like you too, and have since the moment I laid eyes on you." I said. Maddie leaned in, and before I knew what she was doing, her lips were on mine. She pulled away, and I smiled.
"You are one of a kind." She said.
"You are on of a species." I said, and she laughed. Her laugh filled me with happiness. I finally had a girlfriend.
"You have never had a girlfriend?" She asked, reading my mind.
"No, I haven't." I said. "I haven't been interested in anyone but you." I said. She kissed me again.
