Chapter Fourteen ~ When Doves Cry (Part 1)
THE SUMMER BETWEEN 7TH AND 8TH GRADE WENT BY FAST. Max spent most of the summer at the skatepark with JT and Toby or with Manny and Emma in the park just hanging out. In the last couple of weeks of summer vacation, Emma got a babysitting job from one of her mom's old friends. The man's name was Joey, he owned a car dealership so he didn't have time to look after his daughter Angie most days, therefore Emma babysat her, and sometimes Max would join. Angie was a very sweet girl, and for some odd reason Max didn't understand, Angie really liked the redhead.
On one of the last days of summer, Emma and Max were hanging out at the park playing with Angie blowing bubbles, and playing with water. Max really didn't want to go back to school in a few days to all of the homework and drama that somehow seemed to follow her friend group everywhere.
At school she would also have to see Spinner again, she thought she could have avoided this due to the fact that he was supposed to be going to high school, but apparently, there had been a change and now everyone from 7th to 12th grade was gonna go to Degrassi. Max had been successful in avoiding Spinner all summer, he had of course been hanging out with Jimmy, but Max would make sure she was either in her room when he was over, or not be in the apartment at all.
Emma and Max were running around the small playground chasing Angie, "I'm gonna get you, I'm gonna get you" Emma giggled trying to grab Angie from behind.
Max was laughing at Angie squealing, trying to run faster than the two grown girls. In the distance Max could hear a small click sound which caught her attention, she looked in the direction she thought she heard it come from but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. It was probably nothing.
Max's attention returned to one of her best friends and the little black-headed girl who had found the bubbles and was blowing them in Max's direction. She was really gonna miss summer, spending her days like this not having a care in the world, why couldn't every day be like this?

The first day of 8th grade was finally here, this year they were supposed to be the big kids in school, but since they had closed down the high school and moved it to Degrassi, Max suddenly felt even smaller than she had last year.
Max was walking to school with JT and Toby just like she had done one year prior, she felt an odd sense of deja vu, the only difference was that Toby and JT had grown a lot over the summer and was now taller than Max, she, however, hadn't changed a lot, but she was beginning to grow boobs which she wasn't that excited for.
"8th grade was supposed to be ours, it's so unfair" Toby complains, kicking small rocks on the ground in anger.
"I have no problem with an expanded Degrassi, way more fish in the sea" JT smirks.
"What you're fishing for a new babysitter?" Max says sarcastically, rolling her eyes at him which gains a snort from Toby.
"Oh little Maxie, older women, hot sexy older women, just waiting to make me into a man"
