WEDNESDAY MORNING MAX WAS SITTING OUTSIDE THE FRONT ENTRANCE OF DEGRASSI. She had spent most of yesterday at Emma's house hanging out with her friend and eating hotdogs. She hadn't forgotten what had happened with Craig, she wanted to talk to him and make sure he was okay. She was sitting on the stone steps outside the school waiting for him, she had even woken up early to make sure she was there when he came.
An expensive grey car pulls up in front of the school, Max spots Craig inside with a man beside him, who most likely was his father. Craig looked uncomfortable in the car like all he wanted to do was get out. Max couldn't help but stare at their tense body language, Craig's father pulled out a stack of money and handed it to Craig before he got out of the car. His father sped away from the school as Max ran over to greet Craig.
"Hey Craig, wait up" Max shouts trying to catch up with him.
Craig still has the stack of cash in his hands, he tries to put it away but Max has already seen it, "Uh, hey Max" he greets and smiles nervously.
"Why did your dad give you all that cash?" she asks, seeing at least 1 thousand dollars.
Craig stuffs the cash in his bag, not wanting anyone else to see, "he wants me to buy myself a new camera"
Max raises her eyebrows in wonder, "what happened to your camera?" Craig always had his camera around his neck and the last time she saw it, it worked perfectly fine.
Craig chews nervously on his bottom lip, "uh, I fell and it broke" he mumbles.
Max nods slowly not completely believing him, but she could tell he didn't want to talk about it, so she let it go, "so, what happened yesterday, you left pretty quickly" she asks.
"Joey told me he had talked to my dad about Angie and me, so I had to go deal with him, he was quite angry," he says with a sad expression, he zoned out like he was remembering his dad's anger.
Putting a hand on his arm, he snaps out of his thoughts and shrugs, "yeah well I can't do anything about it" his voice is empty of hope which makes Max sad.
"But you're still allowed to hang out with me right?" she asks with a plan in mind.
Craig's brows furrow in confusion not understanding what that had to do with anything, "yeah?"
A large smile tug at her lips, "Me and Emma are babysitting Angela after school, why don't you come hang out with me?"
Craig's eyes light up finally understanding what she was hinting at, "sure, I mean, I am going to hang out with you, Angie just happens to be there as well" he grins with a face full of joy.
Max nods, "meet me out here after school" she leaves him outside the front entrance having to hurry to her classroom before the bell rings.
