AN: Hello fellow fangirls and guys. This is sorta the prologue but it is important for the rest of the story so make sure you read it! Also all the photos you'll see in the chapters have been edited by me to make Chihiro and Haku look older. I hope you enjoy <3

Chihiro sat up in her bed, sleepily rubbing her eyes. Today is her first day of junior year. She looks outside and her eyes travel down the forested area below her house that she explored so many years ago. I know it was real... it has to be.

The clock said 7:12, class doesn't start till 8:30. I have time.

Chihiro stands up and pulls on a purple turtleneck and a pair of jeans. She grabs the purple hair tie that Zeniba had given to her all those years ago.

When Chihiro got downstairs she saw that her mom was already up and making breakfast.

"Ohayō Chihiro. Where are you off to?" Her mother asks sweetly.

"Good morning mommy, I just wanted to go for a short walk before school." She responded filling her plate with fried rice and panfried tofu.

"That sounds like a good way to ease your nerves." Her mom replied sitting next to her at the kitchen table. Chihiro looked up and gave a smile even though her mouth was full.

"Just make sure you aren't late darling." Her mom says taking her plate from her.

"Mom," Chihiro winded, "I wasn't done yet."

"Yes, but you were gobbling that rice like a pig." Her mom chuckled, "I don't want you to feel bloated in class." She said sincerely. Chihiro smiled even though she is much older know her mom never stops looking after her wellbeing.

Chihiro grabbed her backpack off the ground and slipped on her shoes.

"Itte kimasu! I love you mom tell dad I love him too." She says.

"Love you too. Have a good day. Itterasshai!" Her mom shouts back. Chihiro walks out the door. The fresh air breezes past her as she makes her way to her bike. She speeds down the hill and onto the main street. The leaves are mostly green still but some are starting to turn shades of gold and red. The air is cool as it moves over Chihiro's rosy cheeks. She turns down another road that leads to the dirt one. Once she arrives on the dirt road. Chihiro's attention is brought to the little stone houses and the dilapidated wooden torii. She smiles as she regains a feeling of child-like wonder and nostalgia she hadn't experienced in a long time. Chihiro starts biking up the dirt path.

Everything is... smaller. She thinks to herself. She continues up the steep hill trying her best to avoid any rocks and exposed roots in her path. A Dōsojin statue catches her eye

I must almost be there!

She starts to pedal harder. Chihiro in her heart doesn't truly know what she is wanting to find up there but, she feels called to go.

Chihiro finally gets to the structure. Another Dōsojin state awaits her. She gets off her bike and walks over to it putting her hand on it. It is silent in this moment, only the sound of the trees and occasional bird call. She begins to walk up to the structure's door when she feels stiff.

What if this is a bad idea. What if I am crazy and non of this happened? No. It did. She thinks.

She takes another step forward and sits in front of the entrance. She puts her hand on the wall and whispers aloud,

"I know I'm not crazy. Haku if you can hear me..." Tears begin to well up in her eyes, "I just want you to know I think about you every day... and I miss you. You promised... you promised we would see each other again... and I..." Her silent cries turn into small sobs. She hugs her legs to her chest. Just then she feels the air swirls around her. Her head darts up. She holds her hand up as the breeze carries a beautiful pink flower to her. She studies the glistening flower closely then gasps.

"Haku? Haku!" There is no response. Chihiro feels sad but also hopeful as she looks at the lovely pink flower.

It must be a sign... he's out there. She thinks happily

She looks down to her watch,

"AH!" She yelps. The watch reads 8:17, "I'm going to be late!" She runs to her bike making sure not to crush her gift.

Her mom would kill her if she found out she was late to her first day of school! She pedals down the hill as quickly as she can.
