What is this?

There's a tightness in her chest. Tears brimmed her ocean eyes, dripping into her lap. Every inch of her was shaking, but her breath was especially unsteady, hitching and hiccuping no matter how hard she tried to control it. Her head was foggy, her stomach felt heavy, and her hearing was muffled.

And it only got worse when she thought of her master.

No, not her master. Her friend.

"Are you okay?"

The boy, Kaito, sat next to her in the van. The whole thing smelled like garbage, which was to be expected, and Luka couldn't help but miss how Masaru smelled of strawberry champagne. And how his house smelled like him too.

She shouldn't have left. He told her to, sure, but she didn't have to listen to him. That's what he always said. She should have disobeyed, just that once. Now she couldn't save him. It was too late.

She shook her head, because she couldn't bring herself to speak.

She couldn't bring herself to do anything.

She was alone.
