Chapter 3: Shocker
This story is dedicated to LovinLife_101 for designing my cover.
I had been awake for a week now and James has been in the hospital every day and almost every night. I'm new to the city so I don't have any friends here so James has been my only companion. I'm actually glad my parents aren't alive to see me in this condition, they would have been so scared to find out that I'd have to have surgery for my leg. I'm starting rehab in the next two months, the doctor wants me to start as soon as possible. Right now I'm alone since James went to work this morning, it's the first time he's actually gone to work since the accident and I practically had to force him to go in.
The doctor popped in during his rounds and check my vitals. He asked me if I felt any discomfort in my leg, he didn't ask about pain since that was a given despite my being on medication. After he left I pulled out a book that James bought me. Soon I was engrossed in the book, it was the tale of a sexy police detective and a woman he had to protect from her mother's murderer. Naturally they had explosive chemistry and they had wild, untamed, steamy sex; that just reminded me of how much my sex life lacked action. I hadn't been with that many people and I hadn't had sex in six months let alone to have earth moving sex. Eventually they both realized that they were falling in love but neither wanted to admit it for different reasons.
The detective thought that his job posed a threat to her and that anyone who wanted to get to him would immediately go for her. The young woman thought that a successful, charming and compassionate man like the detective wouldn't go for a woman like her who had a less than stellar record. They were idiots to me at that point of the book. If they just opened their eyes and realize that love like that only happens once in a lifetime and took a leap of faith everything would work itself out. Again this book reminded me of the love I longed to have; I wanted a man who would take care of me but would not be a push over. I wanted him to be able to stand up and take charge when necessary but still have a sensitive side. My head began to throb so I put down the book and allowed sleep to welcome me into its warm embrace.
***JAMES' POV***
Shay had been up for a week and I'd stayed at the hospital day and night keeping her company. I found out that she was new to the city, which explained the lack of concerned friends hovering at her bedside. Since I'd been with Shay for the entire week I had not been to work at all, although Kathleen and I did keep in contact over the past week. I was the owner of Sullivan Security INC the best security service in the city. We provided security for high profile people and firms, we also do housing security as well. Right now we were in the middle of an important meeting concerning a fund raising gala and I found myself wondering what Shay was up to. I wondered if she was resting or reading, or if she was thinking about me just I was thinking about her. Whoa, where did that come from?
"Hey boss?" Trey called to me
"Yeah?" I answered coming out of my daze.
"We want your opinion on the stationing plan we came up with for the gala." He told me.
"Oh, yeah sure." I turned my attention to a model floor plan of the site with miniature security guards posted around the exits.
"We should put at least one more guard around the vault." I said while positioning the piece.
We discussed some more topics of concern and every couple of minutes I would glance at the clock. I couldn't wait for the meeting to be over with so I could start on the paper work and calls that needed to be made, so I could head over to Mick's Sandwich Shop and buy a couple sandwiches for lunch. Finally the meeting was done and we made our way out of the room. While I was heading down the hallway to my office Kathleen started walking beside me.
