Lily waved goodbye to her friends for the last time.
"Bye, you guys!" she said, looking over her shoulder and waving goodbye to her two best friends, Sarah and Katie. "I'll see you tomorrow!" Then, she turned back around and walked out of the kindergarten building.
School had just ended for the day for Lily and her kindergarten class. It was a little after 3:30 p.m., and when her teacher, Ms. Bubzy, dismissed them; and Lily got her backpack from her cubby. It was time to go home!
It was a good day in kindergarten. After a busy morning of getting ready, they went to school and had a long day. But it was still a good day! Especially since it was Chef Day.
Chef Day happened at snack time. A chef came to their class. Her name was Maddy, and she worked at a fancy restaurant downtown! When all the kids excitedly sat at their tables, she spent a lot of time making a very yummy ice cream treat for them. It was called mousse. She made it in only 20 minutes! Lily remembered Sarah saying, "Wow, she's good!" And she was right. Lily remembered the yummy, chocolatey treat sliding down her throat. She definitely wanted to try it again sometime! Lily laughed as she thought that her dad would never take her to very fancy restaurant for fun. And Lily was okay with that. She was completely content with her McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's!
Lily and her friends did love the mousse, though. After they ate, Maddy the chef talked about her job, and they had a lesson on why being a chef was a good and important career. They also had to do a worksheet. Now that part wasn't as fun. Oh, well. Chef Day was very fun! And she was happy she had looked forward to it.
Now the school day was over and it was time to finally go home. Lily was sad to leave her friends for the day. But she was also excited to go home and see her dad.
As she ran out of the school, the warm afternoon air enveloped her. She knew her bus ride home would be here very soon, so she rushed to the bus stop as fast as she could!
To get to the bus stop, she ran across the recess playground, which was in front of the school. She got to the gates that surrounded the school grounds. This is where her bus would come and pick her up! There was even a sign next to her that said "Bus Stop". She was the first one here. More students began coming out of the building; as the school day ended for everyone.
Lily looked at her watch. It was 3:32. Her bus should be here in a few minutes! She hoped her bus mates would get here soon so they didn't miss the bus.
And just like that, her bus mates began appearing! For the elementary school bus, all five grades could ride on there. There were three different elementary school buses for their school. She rode on Bus #2.
She noticed how there was a wide range of people on her bus. There were small kindergarteners like her. Then, there were the huge fourth graders that towered over her! They were the big kids. Then there were third graders, who weren't as big. Next there were also those ornery second graders who always seemed to be getting into trouble. And just above the kindergarteners were the first graders. They were only a little bit older than them and very easy to be friends with!
And finally, there could be other kindergarteners just like Lily. Some were even her classmates!
Whoever they were, they all came to the Bus Stop for Bus #2. The sun beat down on Lily's forehead; causing her to sweat. "I think I need some water," she said to herself. "I'm thirsty." Her water bottle came to the rescue! She reached around her backpack and pulled it out. She flipped open the lid and took a good, long drink. "Yum!" she exclaimed, the cold water cooling her body. She put the cap back on and back in her backpack, where it belonged. She felt very refreshed!
