I listened to the chaos of my cabin and stared out the window. Everyone was seated around the little round table except for our counselors. It was a pretty tight squeeze for six girls and their pokemon, but we managed. I was sitting between Gaia and Greninja, who was beside Lilac. Deerling was asleep on Lilac's lap, and Misdreavus was flying around Gaia's head. Beside Gaia was Aubrey, then Eve, and between Eve and Lilac was Pearl. Eve's Eevee was on her shoulder, Pearl didn't have any pokemon out, and Flabebe was resting on the table with her flower beside her. Greninja, Gaia, Maggie, Sylveon and I had gone to the snack bar earlier to grab some snacks for everyone since it was raining so hard out. Sylveon because she and Maggie had umbrellas, and Greninja, Gaia and I just didn't mind the rain. Now we were all munching on chips and candy, talking loudly while our counselors scrolled through their phones or tried to sleep.
"I want to go swimming!"
"Not now Popplio."
"So, does anyone ever nickname their pokemon?" Eve asked, thankfully changing the subject before Popplio could pester me again.
"Yeah, eevees and pikachus seem to be fairly popular starters around here, and occasionally Greninja and I see other greninjas too, so I nickname Greninja A.G, my Eevee Amaryllis, and Pikachu Aella." I replied.
"Oh, I like Amaryllis!"
"My eevee chose it herself."
"Why A.G?" Gaia questioned Greninja's nickname.
"Her initial, my initial." Greninja answered for me. "I like it better than using my initial and then the first initial of my family name. Then it would be G.K."
"Yeah, actually stick to A.G. It does sound better."
Just then there was some banging at the door. Some of us jumped, Gaia looked bored as she always did, and then we were all just confused.
"I'll get it!" I volunteered.
I got up and walked over to the door. Greninja tried to follow, but I made sure to tell him telepathically that I would be fine. I was only answering the door, how hard could it be? I wasn't that introverted. I handled talking to people just fine, even if it was a little rocky at first.
"Hello?" I asked as I opened the door to see Max... Standing there... In the girl's hall... With an Alolan Muk...
"Yeah, hi. I can tell by your expression that you're not too pleased about seeing me here." He said, his own expression going from tired and bored to annoyed as soon as he saw me. "Trust me, I'm not happy about it either. But this muk has been following me around and it doesn't belong to any of the boys, so I got permission to come upstairs to the girl's hall and ask if it belongs to anyone."
"Nope. Greninja's my only dark type." I shrugged as my partner silently came up behind me, wanting to hear the conversation. "And Gaia trains ghost types only. Eve collects nature inspired pokemon, whatever that means, so a muk doesn't really fit that category. I already know all of Lilac's pokemon, so I guess that only leaves my counselors, Aubrey, and Pearl."
"Good to know who not to waste my time on." Max sighed. "Is it alright if I talk to them?"
"Nobody in here has a muk! Quit stalling just so you can talk to your cruuuuussssshhhh~!" Gaia yelled at Max from where she was seated. I thought I saw him blush slightly, but who wouldn't when they'd just been embarrassed like that? Didn't matter if it was true or not, Gaia had called him out for something that should've stayed a secret if that was what he really thought of me.
"She's not my crush, but I guess you could say she's my rival." Max shot back. "We both made it to the city league finals last year, but I won. Proving I'm still unbeatable! Now, I'm moving onto the country's league where I'll win again!"
