Percy tightened his grip on Annabeth's wrist. His face was gaunt, scraped and bloody, his hair dusted with cobwebs, but when he locked eyes with her, she thought he had never looked more handsome.
"We're staying together," he promised. "You're not getting away from me. Never again."
Only then did she realize what would happen. A one way trip. A very hard fall.
"As long as we're together," she said. She heard Nico and Hazel still screaming for help. She saw the sunlight far, far above- maybe the last sunlight she would ever see.
Then Percy let go of his tiny ledge, and together, holding hands, he and Annabeth fell into the endless darkness.

Percy's POV
It seemed like forever that we were falling, everything was dark, even the light disappeared too fast from above, and from the looks of it, we still had a long of a fall to go. I was still holding onto Annabeth's wrist. She was screaming and I looked at her with sympathy, I know her ankle had to be hurting her pretty bad. I also knew that there was nothing I could do to help her.
"Percy!" Annabeth screamed. When I looked down at her, I knew why. The ground was racing towards us at a pretty fast rate and at any moment we would become demigod pancakes. I pulled Annabeth up towards me and tried to turn so that she would land on top of me and hopefully I would be the one to take on the pain. The ground was closer now, I braced myself for impact. I remember crash landing in Tartarus and then my vision went black.
~*~*~*~*~
I started to wake up, my vision was blurry and pain ran all the way through my body. Tartarus was dark and all you could hear were the endless screams of agony from monsters and lost souls. The whole place was full of red fog, the walls were black rocks and the place reeked like sewage. The whole atmosphere was eery. I tried to sit up but my arms failed me, and all I could see was red. Pain struck my whole body as I tried to sit up, I laid back down as a groan escaped my lips.
"P-Percy?" Annabeth called.
"Annabeth," I croaked. "Are you okay?" I continued.
"I'm alright, Seaweed brain,"she said.
I tried to sit up again and this time I sat all the way up. I realized my elbow was out of place, I must have dislocated my arm. My back was in searing pain too. I was in pretty bad shape but, I hoped Annabeth wouldn't notice. Once I stood up, the pain dissipated a little. I noticed Annabeth sitting in a dark corner, I started to limp over to her and sat next to her. I choked up when I saw her, her face was cut and bloody she had pretty bad scrapes all over her arms and legs but, her ankle was worse, she must have landed on it because it was more bruised than before and there was a deep gash that went straight down her leg and just past her ankle.
"Oh my gods, Annabeth," I started. "You don't look alright," I continued solemnly.
"Well, it doesn't hurt as bad as it looks," she said.
I looked at her dejectedly. "I think I have some ambrosia in my pocket, you need it more than I do," I reached into my pocket and pulled out the small amount of ambrosia I had left and handed it to her.
"But, Percy... Your arm," she exclaimed.
"Just take it, Wise girl. I'll be okay," I smiled reassuringly at her.
"O-okay," she reluctantly took the ambrosia and started to eat it.
As she did so I tried to pop my arm back into place as best I could, I gave it pressure and heard it pop and all the sudden pain filled my arm and I groaned from the pain. Annabeth looked up at me worriedly I tried to give her a reassuring smile. She locked eyes with me and I know that my smile didn't fool her.
"I'm alright," I said, leaning forward and kissing her and softly whispering. "I promise."
She nodded slowly, and reluctantly.
Annabeth started to stand up, she winced as she slightly added weight to her broken ankle. I felt terrible that she had a broken ankle, I feel like if I had come with her to seek the Athena Parthenos, then I could have saved her. But, I also know that she needed to do this on her own. I know she's a smart girl and she knows how to save herself. I just feel like a terrible boyfriend for letting her do that on her own. I started to stand with her.
"Should we move on?" I asked her.
"Yes, if we stay here too long, we might end up getting killed," she said grimly.
I nodded in silence and we moved on. Then, I noticed her staring at a backpack that was on the ground.
"Hey, I think this is my bag," she said, smiling slightly. "If this is my bag then, I still might have Daedalus's laptop!" She stated cheerfully as she walked up to the bag and looked inside. She looked up at me smiling away. "It is my pack and the laptop is here, a little bit of water, nectar and ambrosia too."
"That's great!" I said happily for her. Although, I honestly didn't know how the laptop would help us down here. I'm pretty sure there's absolutely no internet connection here. She picked up her belongings and we continued on. There was a little bit of light here, but not much. I checked my pockets for Riptide, thank the gods that I still had my lethal ballpoint pen. If I didn't have it right now, I don't know how we would survive this place.
As we walked further into darkness I heard movement, like somebody scurrying away from us. I looked at Annabeth and placed a finger in front of my lips in a quiet way of telling her to stay silent. She nodded slowly as we stayed walking forward. Right in front of us with it's back towards us was a big hell hound. Annabeth gasped as she turned towards me, I placed my hand over her mouth and pulled her into a dark corner. "What are we gonna do?" she whispered.
"I don't know," I admitted.
"This isn't good. We're not in any shape to fight a monster, especially not a hell hound," she said distastefully. As much as I wanted to disagree, I couldn't. I know if I tried to fight that thing, I would end up getting myself killed. We couldn't afford to take chances but, you know what? We've never gone a time where we didn't take chances. I looked Annabeth straight in the eyes.
"We have to try," I took out riptide and stood up. Annabeth looked at me surprised. I whispered "We'll be alright," as I walked towards the hound.
