I walked alongside Illumi as we made our way back to the Zoldyck mansion. The trip was mostly silent with minimal conversation."You know you don't HAVE to come back right?" Illumi said suddenly after the silent period during our airship ride.
"I'm aware. I am CHOOSING to come." I stated. Illumi gave me a look before going back to his stoic self.
"If anyone finds out you of all people have connections to the family, it would be a severe weak point." He stated, almost insultingly. I feined a gasp, acting out a hurt persona to his harsh words.
"Do you indend to state that I am weak, Illumi? Just because we do not bare the same last name does not prone me to become weak." I simply retorted, all hints of hurt gone.
"You're being overdramatic. You have become softer as time went on. How long has it been? 5... 6... years? I saw it when you talked to that boy Killua has become found of." Illumi replied.
"It seems you have a point there. I guess I am softer to the son of a past friend. He's going to be quite powerful, I'm sure. Perhaps even to the point where he'd be of use." I said ernestly. It is true that I have lost the stern and stoic look that Illumi wears all the time. In fact, ever since I met Ging, his annoying teaching methods have converted my emotionless state to one of frustration. Perhaps someone would be able to milk information out of me but I don't think I would be able to give up any information. It would be a wasted effort.
"Mom will be happy to see you again. She speaks foundly on your behalf." I nodded at Illumi's words. It was rare to have him say anything remotely nice so this was a surprise. "Lets hurry. Best not to attract any unwanted "tourists" on the way home."
I agreed. "Indeed, I'm sure Mike gets plently to eat already."
We ran the rest of the way up the mountain, taking a more hidden route than the main road. It was much harder to run and avoid all the folliage but this was much safer and would attract much less people to us.
Soon enough, we reached the testing gates of the Zoldyck mansion. A smile graced my face as I grew nostalgic of its similar sight. Indeed it is time I returned. We opened the doors, both of us reaching the max limit. I waved to the gate keeper, Zebro, as I walked in. Inside the mansion, we were greeted by the main butlers of the mansion as they welcomed Illumi home. A chorus of "Welcome Home Master Illumi and Miss Y/n" came from the line of people.
Kikiyo must have heard of our entry as she came rushing towards Illumi with Kullato on her tail.
"Oh dears you are finally home and have brough Killua back." Kikiyo rushed us in excitedly and her excitement only grew when she noticed me.
"Oh my, Y/n! You have grown well my dear. I could not be happier than to have you here right now. Important matters await both you and Illumi."
It was quite the sight to see Kikiyo so excited by my presence. Both Illumi and I were rushed into the main building of the mansion where Silvia and Zeno awaited.
Illumi paid his respects to his father and bowed before taking a seat at the neatly set table. I followed and greeted the elders with respect before taking my seat. Silvia was seated at the head of the table with Zeno and Kikiyo in the seats immediately adjacent. Illumi and I were seated across from each other in the seats next to Zeno and Kikiyo.
The talk was ready to commence.
"So Silvia and I were talking on your behalf and we believed you are to be wed." Kikiyo started. "Illumi, my child, you are almost of age to be wed and I have not yet heard of any women in your life that would be of interest for you to marry."
"Mother, I believe we have agreed that my marriage would not come of an issue until 25 comes around. I still have a year." Illumi replied calmly.
"A year is far too little. A women to be married into the Zoldyck family must be of elogance and grace but too can partake in the family business. You will not be 24 much longer." Kikiyo complained, trying to hold onto what patience she has left. It was clear that Illumi did not want to talk of the topic and would rather not have his love life be muddled in family affairs. Perhaps he too knows he lacks the ability to attract a woman due to his dedication to the Zoldyck name.
Nonetheless, Kikiyo continued her rambling about the coming of age and marriage, much to Illumi's displeasure.
"A man of your age must be wed. It would simply be shameful to have such an esteemed name but not woman to accompany it. It'd be an embarassment to the Zoldyck name. Not once has a Zoldyck not been married at the proper age. It simply needs to be done..." Kikiyo went on and on about how she would not let Illumi be single at age 25. Although this doesn't really pertain to me, I could tell Illumi was starting to get annoyed. And despite years of trainign to show a lack of emotion, his frustrations are beginning to shine through.
Silvia cleared his throat as to end his wife's nonestop rambling. I threw a smirk towards Illumi as if to mock him through my freedom to marry when I wish. He was clearly irked beyond belief. I quickly hide my mockery and Silvia stopped Kikiyo.
"I belive your mother and I, mostly your mother, have come to a solution." Silvia spoke. Kikiyo nodded next to him.
"Yes, your father is right. This would solve the marriage issue you are having and I believe it would be good for our family. In fact, I have considered this your a while now." Kikiyo spoke. She was clearly excited to announce this.
"I have proposed a marriage partner for you and I believe she is well suited for the family."
Illumi and I both looked at Kikiyo skeptically. It would be hard to find a girl that could tolerate Illumi and handle assassinations well. Illumi was clearly questioning his mother in her choices. Perhaps she was getting desparate and jsut paid a girl to marry her son or has truely found another willing assassin to don the Zoldyck name. Although I feel the former is the more likely option.
"And who is this girl exactly, mother" Illumi spoke in a condesending tone. I too raised my eyebrows, wondering who would be the most fit to marry Illumi.
"Oh dear, its Y/n of course!" Kikiyo shouted.
