Dinner was awkwardly silent as Kikiyo tried to push Illumi and me closer together. I looked over at Illumi to see him mouth the word sorry towards me as his mother relentlessly bragged about our abilities to kill. Eventually, it skyrocketed to talking about reproduction and the formation of perfect killing prodigies. Otherwise, it was mostly silent except for Milluki trying to get his mother's attention. I began to drown out the long and sensual words of Kikyo when she started talking about the "magic of love-making" and focused on Milluki trying to expand on his findings of the recent technologies he tailored to the family. It would seem that although the obese man has little potential in terms of actual combat, he has significant genius in the formation of deadly technology any modern-day aspiring revolutions would be dying to get their hands on.I felt a light tapping on my tighs and looked over to see the cold-faced Illumi staring at me with his soulless eyes.
"Mother wants us to hold hands and compliment each other," he whispered. I rolled my eyes and turned towards him, placing my hands in his palms.
"Y/n you kill nicely." He said stoically. I raised an eyebrow at him and cringed.
"Ya. You too bro." I replied with just as little emotion as he had.
After our riveting compliments towards each other were said, we looked back over to Kikiyo only to find her furrowing her eyebrows.
"Mother, I did as you asked. May we go back to dinner?" Illumi spoke up. Kikyo looked to be in thought for a brief moment before snapping out of it.
"I suppose that was sufficient. We are not made to show love after all but to be ruthless killers ready to sacrifice the other for survival at any moment." She said with the same cold tone before turning to her plate of food.
Ignoring the rather insightful comment on what her opinions of marriage were, I too turned to my food, cutting a nice portion to go on my fork and feeding it to my mouth. Almost immediately I could taste the bitterness of the cyanide in the chicken and the berry-like taste of deadly-nightshade. I smiled at the familiar tastes from childhood.
The rest of dinner was spent mostly in silence with only small remarks made by Milluki and Kullato to gain some form of acknowledgment from their parents. Milluki again bantered on and on about the increased aerodynamics his new machinery would give while Kullato conversed lightly with Kikiyo about dresses and traditional yukatas.
Once dessert was served, the conversation resumed, beginning with Zeno.
"So Y/n how have you been? Any new jobs that meet your fancy?" He questioned.
"I think I'll stay by Heavens Arena for now. I do have a job coming up in York New with the September auction being a place where high profile officials are targeted." I replied.
"I heard you defended your floor once again. Do you think Battle Olympia will be of any interest soon?" Zeno asked.
"At the rate that I'm ascending, likely not within the next year. But no new floor masters have really been made on the floors since I came along." I responded.
The conversation continued, turning into a game of 20 questions but only towards me.
Z- "Perhaps you can try against another floor master."
Y/n- "I'm good where I am."
Z- "Battle Olympia would get you lots more respect and a title that's hard to get."
Y/n- "I would also be tied to the institution if I won and you should know the rest, Zeno. After all, you made that agreement."
Z- "Quick to point it out as always. You know it's not a bad idea to be ebbed in the family."
