(Ryan)

Usually, during a pep-rally, I'd be doing a perimeter of the area I'm meant to protect. Not this time. This time, the boss--Kendrick--took the opportunity to call me into one of our little meetings. I already knew what he wanted to talk to me about. I should have known I couldn't avoid it.

Keaira.

I sighed

She intercepted a bond I meant to make with Sierra from math class. That's who I was assigned. It's not like it was her fault or she knew. I was being careless.

I was always taught that forging the bond with the wrong person could have consequences that affected them more than me.

There was the posibility of addiction, obssession, and a trance-like state of mind. I'd be like a magnet until either the bond was broken or it became permanent and the person I'm attatched to became more used to the feeling.

Kendrick warned me that it could possibly possess Keaira and she'd be on my heel like a lost puppy.

I could tell that the bond was already taking effect on her.

Kendrick also mentioned that it could make her a magnet, too. A magnet for trouble.

Everything that I work to protect people from would come after her (it makes the bond necessary and it becomes legit).

I walked up the stairs and into the school's attic. There at his makeshift desk, Kendrick waited with a not-so-happy look on his face.

Not that he ever looked happy.

"Ah, so Adonis finally decides to join me."

I cringed.

"Don't call me that, Kendrick."

"Hey, that's BOSS to you!"

I rolled my eyes.

"Aye, do you wanna keep those eyes? You know why you're in here so don't act like that."

Kendrick--despite how it may seem--was actually like a father to me and just like an actual father, he didn't take any mess from me.

"I really wish you would have been more careful with that girl, Ryan. This is bad. You know that, right?"

I cast my eyes downward.

"Yeah, I know that. It didn't happen according to plan. Sierra and I were supposed to be the only ones in the hallway at the time, usually Keaira is punctual. That day she just happened to be late and it seemed like she knew that something was going on and she hesitated to walk past."

Kendrick pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Well, Ryan, I wish she would have waited until it was complete."

"It's not like she knew what was going on. All she knew was that she would have ruined her perfect attendance record if she hadn't gotten by."

I paused.

"Besides, didn't you once tell me that things happen for a reason? Maybe this happened for a reason."

He groaned.

"Now you choose to listen to me? THIS IS SERIOUS, RYAN. Whether it was meant to happen or not, the consequences are grave and we can't ignore it."

I let out a sigh.

"Her mental state, that'll soon subside, but the second part--the one where she attracts trouble--that'll last as long as that bond takes to be completed and that varies from person to person."

"I know all of this."

"What you don't know is that the Burston Beasts are back", he said with a grim expression on his face.

"I thought we took care of them for good."

"No. Apparently not. We can't afford to let the Beasts get near the school. That puts everyone at risk."

"I know, but the Guardians-"

"Wait. Do you smell something fruity?"

I did, and I was well aware of who it was, but I wasn't going to let Kendrick know that.

"No."

"Well I do. I think we have a visitor."

Kendrick walked over to a stack of boxes near the entrance. A convenient but obvious hiding spot.

Just as Kendrick neared the boxes, I saw a figure slink out of the exit. I wasn't sure how she did it, but she saved herself some serious trouble.

"Whoever it was, they're gone now. But they left this."

Kendrick held up a worn leather bracelet with a charm on it. Engraved in the charm was a name.

'Keaira.'

"The girl's been here, who knows how much she heard! Ryan, find her and bring her to me immediately!"

This. Was. Bad.

A/N: I don't know if you know, but I am off of my hiatus! I'm not promising that my chapters will be regular but they should definitely be coming a whole lot faster!

A little birdie reminded me the importance of Ryan's point of view. A few things probably needed clearing up, so I hope this here helps. I was stumped by writer's block for a while but I now remember the direction that I wanted this to take.

Now on to the usual...

This was the official CHAPTER FOUR!!!! I sincerely hope you enjoyed it and I hope you enjoyed the latest chapter!

COMMENT, VOTE, FOLLOW, RECOMMEND!!! I also greatly appreciate critiques :) All those things will keep the chapters coming (if you want more, that is)! I appreciate you all helping me and motivating me to continue!

Happy 2015!!!

Much Love,
